The littlest activities can be just as educational as a perfectly planned out “Pinterest” style lesson. One activity that we do often is simply putting stickers on paper. It might not seem like much, but it actually really helps kids develop their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Plus, kids really seem to like stickers so it’s a good way to get a few moments of calm.
All you need for this simply activity is stickers and paper (as you probably guess!) I actually got my girls their own notebooks to collect their stickers in. They love having their own books to use, it keeps all of their stickers in one place, and eliminates the sometimes difficult part of parenting that involves trashing your child’s beloved artwork. (Hey, we can’t keep everything!)
I like using puffy stickers because they are easier for kids to remove themselves. My 1.5 year old has no problems using them all by herself. Another perk of puffy stickers is the sensory play they enable. Many children enjoy the texture of puffy stickers.
Stickers can be used in a variety of ways. Usually I just let my kids use them however they want and their own activities pop up from there. My 3 year olds likes to create her own categories like all purple stickers. My 1.5 year old practices identifying words and sounds of objects/animals. You can also help lead your child in these activities by helping them sort the stickers into categories or asking them to find specific stickers.
Of course, what kids love doing most is being left to their own creative devices. And sometimes that means their notebooks end up looking like this…
But that’s okay. They are always so proud of their work in the end.
From the very first day they come into the world, your child will be watching & learning from everything you do. It might not seem like much when they are a squishy little bundle that does nothing but eat, sleep, & cry, but I promise that you are still their first teacher.
I don’t know about you all, but my children beg to go outside and play in the snow any time they look out the window. However, at just 3 and 1.5 years old, they tend to get the snow in their faces, boots, down their coats, and inside their mittens fairly quickly which ends up making our stints outside short.

information, experiences and opinions..
me and my little man who is constantly teaching me new things!
We all have humorous experiences as parents..  here are a few “lessons” I’ve learned along the way…
-your baby is hungry when he starts to suck on your shirt in the appropriate place.. feed him
-when your baby wakes up from a nap and starts to fuss, don’t finish emptying the dishwasher, tend to him, because he will spit up all over himself and all over you when you pick him up.. just to make a point
-if your child has been laughing for 5 minutes straight and you reach for your camera, he will stop laughing, and wont start again until your camera is out of reach
-while changing your child’s diaper, stay focused. If you start to deviate from the task and get wrapped up in their smiles and coos, your child will pee on you and it will hit your face..
2/12/2012 – My husband was preparing a bottle for Breckin a couple weeks ago (when we just started supplementing with formula) and I walked in and he was scraping off formula that had spilled on the counter and putting it into the bottle.. so I chuckled a little and asked him what he was doing. His response..
“Hey this stuff is like crack, you don’t want to waste any!”
ahh priceless!
2/16/2012 – A piece of junk mail will keep an 8 month old entertained WAY longer than any $30 toy.
** I will be continually updating this post as I am learning new lessons every day!
