The decision on how many children to have is a very personal one, and it is one that can only be made between a mom and her partner. Some plan on having small families, and some plan on having large families . Sometimes, moms plan one thing and end up in an entirely different situation. One of the greatest things about motherhood is that you can always find someone you can relate to. Finding mom friends and parents who are similar to you can be refreshing and just the break and vent buddy that you need.
Parents of only children will normally gravitate towards families that look like them, and that is because they feel like they can relate better and understand the struggles and joys that come with that journey. However, it also works the other way, and parents who have more than 3 children are facing their own unique paths and journeys, and there are going to be things that only they can relate to. We have found 10 things that only moms of three (or more) children can relate to.
While all moms are subject to judgment, moms of more than three children face a whole different kind of judgment . According to Empowering Parents , moms of many children have to face judgment from strangers, and family members, about how many children they have. They have to deal with the constant, “you’ve got your hands full” comments and the inquiry minds asking how they handle it all.
Having children is expensive, and even more so when you have a lot of them. According to Today’s Parent , moms of three or more children do not get rid of anything. They don’t donate or throw it away because they will always use it for another child. It is their best strategy for saving a bit of money.
When parents have only one child, they can focus all of their energy on that one child, and this may mean a lot of activities and extracurricular activities. When you have multiple children, the importance of those seems to go out the window, and you are OK with it. Your child may be in one program, but you quickly realize that is enough.
According to Very Well Family , when you have more than three kids, your expectations naturally get lowered. You make sure all your children have what they need, but you don’t fret about the little things, and you have greater trust in the idea that everything will work out OK.
When you have multiple children, you don’t have time to invest in parenting books and expert blogs. You throw them out, and you go with what works for you. You are learning as you go, and your multiple children are the ones teaching you.
This one may be hard to believe, but it is actually true for a lot of families. The more children you have, the calmer your house can appear. When children have siblings, they will often reach an age where they can entertain themselves and each other, and this means they may not be bugging mom every minute.
Going back to the money aspect, moms of multiple children turn into the ultimate cheapskate, and not in a bad way. They are always looking for the sale, and they are the ones who are cutting coupons, and you definitely see them in Costco buying snacks for their home.
Loading up more than 3 children to go to the grocery store can seem daunting, and that is because it is. Taking multiple children out of the house can be an overwhelming task and make you reminisce about the time when you just had one child.
Moms of three or more kids may be more prone to ask for help, mostly because they don’t have a choice. They realize that outsourcing may be the best thing they have ever done, and they are not afraid to ask family or friends for help when it comes to certain tasks. It can be hard for a mom to ask for help, but this seems to get easier the more children you have.
Moms with multiples may worry more about their mental health and free time. It might be harder to find someone who is willing to babysit multiple kids (family or not). They may also feel like there's never enough time. Therefore, they may worry about getting things done.
Of course, every mom is always going to worry about her children, but this is something that moms of large families seem to understand and that is that they worry less. The more children they add, the more confident they feel in their parenting, and they just don’t have time or energy to worry as they used to, which may give their mental health a break.
