A mother woke up to find her four-year-old son dangling from a hole on the floor of her apartment that their dog had already fallen into. Birdesha Weldon said she had reported her concerns of the floor possibly opening up for four months and that she awakened to her worst fears.
‘I jumped up, my heart is pounding, and I see my son hanging on for dear life,’ Weldon told WGCL of the incident on Thursday morning. 
Weldon said she pulled her son Ethan out of danger just in time. It could have been worse.
‘I could literally see him shaking. He was like mommy, “I almost died.” And I was like, “thank God you didn’t,”‘ Weldon said. ‘Thank God he was strong enough to hold himself up until I jumped out of bed to get him but other than that, he probably would have fell through and God forbid broke a leg or arm or died.’  
Their dog Milo was not as lucky. The pup had fallen through the 10-foot hole and was silent for some time.
Fire department personnel arrived and examined Ethan and Milo and found just bruises and scratches. 
Weldon reported the potential hazard at Abernathy Apartments in Sandy Springs, Georgia, starting in December 2020 and filed another complaint in January through the online tenant portal, records show. The mother claims that Abernathy Apartments and other residential complexes have done fewer inspections since the coronavirus pandemic began due to diminished oversight from state authorities.
Georgia law requires landlords to address repairs in ‘reasonable time,’ according to WGCL.
Maintenance workers closed the hole in Weldon’s apartment quickly after the incident.
However, the mother said it she waited too long.
‘If anything happens to my son, I don’t know what I’ll do,’ Weldon said. ‘So the simple things – like “hey I’m paying my rent and I’ve never been late – come fix the stuff.” That’s y’all job.’

A mum of six who was woken up by her three-year-old son looked around to find ‘big scary eyes’ glaring back at her.
Sarah Johnson from Southport on Merseyside thought she was still dreaming when her youngest son Jack woke her up at 4am warning her of the “scary” thing in her room.
The 36-year-old told how her son was left spooked after finding a random owl had flown int his room and was casually staring at him from the end of his bed.
But the curious bird then followed young Jack to his mum's room when he went to tell her about the uninvited guest.
And when Jack managed to rouse his mum, she got the shock of her life to find the owl perched on her headboard staring back at her.
Sarah, who works as a phlebotomist, told the ECHO: "My three-year-old came running in the room saying 'there's a big scary bird with big eyes mummy'. I told him to get back in bed and that he was having a bad dream.
"Then he said 'no, look mummy, it's there!' and pointed at the headboard. So I turned around and it was just there. I was petrified!
"I went round all the kids' bedrooms and opened all the windows but it kept going round all the bedrooms. It was on the bunk beds watching the kids asleep next to their heads. I was panicking because I don't know if an owl is aggressive or not. Eventually, after an hour, it went."
Luckily for Sarah, it was only her youngest son, Jack, who woke up during the commotion. Her triplets and two eldest sons didn't wake up and get the same fright.
The mum said she has been awake since the incident this morning, with Jack not being able to sleep again after seeing the owl.
Sarah posted pictures of the owl on Facebook after it flew out of the house, with the owner coming forward and apologising after his pet bird had escaped.

Sarah only thought to put the post up after seeing the owl had a tag around its leg. She said: "It's something you don't ever expect to happen to you, but I just didn't know what to do. It was just staring at me, I thought I was dreaming at first."
The owl is believed to have got in through Sarah's eldest child's window after Kyle, 12, went to sleep with it open.
The owner of the owl commented on Sarah's post saying: "He took off last night around 10 pm and then returned at half six this morning when I let the dogs out."
He then quickly apologised, saying: "I apologise for him disturbing you."
