Most people find teaching children about emotions is hard, because emotions are not concrete or tangible. However, helping child identify, understand, and manage emotions is key in parenting or education overall.
This book provides easy-to-understand and practical tools parents can use immediately to guide children's emotions and emotional development. The framework itself is also clear and easy-to-follow.
In addition, I really liked how the author listed out key development goals and according parental actions based on children's developmental stages (infants, 2-3 yr old, 4-7 yr old). I found this information to be very useful as well.
Highly recommend this book to any parents looking to learn more about emotional guidance for children.

Seems like a good book, but for very young kids. Bought it for my 6 year old and it was for younger. Easy return.

"The Go-To Mom's Guide To Emotion Coaching Young Children" is book that couldn't have come at a better time for us. I'm a father of a 2 year 8 month old boy who challenges us on a daily basis whether it's eating, sleeping, potty training, taking a bath, going to swim class, playing with toys and sharing, I can go on and on... My wife and I have disagreements on how we should raise him but we're both open to a new solution. She feels "Time Outs" work for him and giving him rewards like chocolate when he sits on the toilet are great solutions, while I disagree wholeheartedly. When I take him to the toilet and refuse to give him chocolate, he gets upset at me and probably thinks, "Mama does it, why doesn't Dada?". After reading some of this book, I realized I was doing somethings that were actually correct (which is empathizing with my child, respecting and validating his feelings, and managing him without "time-outs", bribing, or raising my voice over his extremely loud voice). Then, there are times where I'd fall back into the old parenting habits and feel terrible with it. My wife and I are looking for alternative parenting methods and strategies that actually work in a positive manner. We want to raise a strong healthy boy who can eventually manage himself responsibly with his emotions. "Emotion Coaching" is the solution for any parent and it involves keeping yourself in check (esp. with your kids) so it's a huge growing experience for the parent and child as individuals, as well as together, in their relationship with themselves, and others in the world community. After reading some of this book, you'll start digging deeper to be a better parent and person for your child.
Highly Highly Recommended! If I could give more stars I would...

I like the concept of emotion coaching. I truly believe in the power of that concept so I really wanted this to be a great book. However, this book seems to present a more jumbled less straightforward version of the emotion coaching that is presented in Raising an Emotionally Intelligent Child, which is a book that I like much better.

I am a mother of two, a pre-schooler and a toddler. The methods explained in this book make logical sense to me and they actually work! It makes me feel I am a friend and a guide to my child rather than a bossy parent.

I found a lot of ideas useful in this book, but I was constantly perturbed by the writer's somewhat Know-It-All attitude. Even when she was trying to be humble in some anecdotes, she came across cocky to me.

"The Go-To Mom's Emotion Coachig Young Children" came at the right time for my husband and myself. We have 2 children, 3 1/2 year old very active boy and a 17 month old little girl. Our son for the most part is a good kid, but we have times when the tantrums are nerve racking and we find our selves yelling at him and saying things like "why did you do that" or "Go to your room till your done crying". Both my husband and I work so when we come home we are wanting the quality time with our children and we find ourselves yelling by the time bed time rolls around.
I purched this book the other day and I have been reading it aloud to my husband in the evenings, and already I want to put into motion My Emotion Coaching skills, a lot of the topices in this book we find ourselves relating to what the Author is saying. We both want our time with our children to be positive and memorable. I have started changing the way I speak to my son, instead of saying "Why did you or How could you" I am putting his thoughts and feelings before my own, and I have to truly say that I already am seeing a difference in my son's attitude and his behaivor. Bed time hasn't been a hellish experience it has actually been nice to be able to read to my son and have him say good night when I am finished rather then crying because he doesn't want to go to sleep.
I have recommended this book to several of my freinds already because I think that every parent can use a little coaching of there own. We want our children to grow up to be strong independent adults who will be able to face the world in a postive manner.
I Highly Recommend this book to anyone, this is by far the best book I have read that not only teaches you how to Coach your children in a Positive and Loving manner, but it also teaches you how to control and look inside your self to be a better person.
I thank the Author a 100 times over.
