It is the way of the world that the powerful will always rule over the weak, and the same holds true for One Piece. One Piece primarily focuses on pirates who are hunting for the ultimate treasure that was left behind by Gol D. Roger. The number of pirates who compete with each for the treasure is simply astounding.
Among the huge number of pirates, there are four in particular who are considered to be closest to the One Piece. These are the Four Emperors— Shanks, Big Mom, Kaido and Blackbeard. Big Mom is one of the strongest characters and her strength is only matched by a few. In this post, we will talk about ten things that you might not have known about Big Mom.
It is a well-known fact that Oda has made several characters who have links to real-life pirates. Big Mom falls into this category. Her real name is Charlotte Linlin. She shares her name with two real-life pirates Charlotte de Berry and Charlotte Badger. Being based on a real-life pirate makes a character a bit more interesting and unique. The fans would definitely be looking forward to seeing more of Big Mom in the future.
Unbeknownst to many, Big Mom is the youngest ever person to have led a pirate crew. Big Mom started captaining her crew at the age of just six years old. It is really shocking to think that a mere child could lead a pirate crew. Pirates are often unforgiving and they don't treat the weak very nicely. However, it is known that even from a very young age, Big Mom was very strong. According to Mother Carmel, she could easily become a fleet admiral if she were to join the Marines. But, as we know, Big Mom chose to become a pirate instead of becoming a marine.
Big Mom and her entire crew share similarities with fairy tales and other fantasy fiction. Big Mom is heavily inspired by Alice in Wonderland. She shares a lot of similarities with The Queen of Hearts.
Both of them are selfish and are prone to bursts of rage. Another thing that is common between them is their abnormal size. Also, they both rule over their kingdoms with totalitarianism. Big Mom is also akin to the Mad Hatter and both of them are obsessed with parties. Big Mom shares her mood swings and oversize head with the Duchess.
During the Whole Cake Island arc, a very iconic scene took place. While she was rampaging through Sweet City in Totto Land, she climbed onto a tower and then she roared and waved her hand in rage. This scene is similar to the famous King Kong scene. It just goes to show how much effort Oda puts into his work particularly these little things that when noticed adds a bit more flavor to a particular character.
Mother Carmel believed that she hit the ultimate jackpot with Charlotte Linlin. After meeting Linlin as a kid, she immediately realized that Linlin could go a very long way, and she was proven right. She managed to defeat one of the heroes of Elbaf as a kid. Charlotte Linlin gained her first bounty at the age of six, which made her the youngest person to have a bounty on their head. She got her bounty two years before Nico Robin, who got her bounty at the age of eight.
As a member of the Yonko, Big Mom is the one of most feared pirates in the world. Her status also makes her the most powerful female pirate in the series. All the other females are way below her level. She has the highest bounty for a female character with 4,388,000,000 beris.
Big Mom was able to clash with Kaido and she wasn't even at her full power. Big Mom's skin cannot be damaged by ordinary means. She is feared by even her children as she isn't hesitant to get rid of them if they don't obey her orders.
Big Mom is one of the few characters who are capable of using all three types of Haki. This was confirmed during the Whole Cake Island arc. Big Mom's burst of Conqueror's Haki knocked out most people at the Tea Party, which just shows how frightening she can be as an opponent. Also, she very likely has advanced Armament Haki. Big Mom had a brief tussle with Luffy at Whole Cake Island and Luffy came out worse. His entire energy was drained and Big Mom wasn't even scratched.
Big Mom possesses a paramecia type devil fruit called Soru Soru no Mi. The devil fruit allows her to extract the soul of other people who fear her. She can even put her own soul in objects and create weapons. She had three weapons— Poseidon, Prometheus and Napoleon. With Poseidon, she could control thunder, and with Prometheus she controls fire. Finally, Napoleon is a sword that allows her to slice through the largest of objects.
Big Mom also shares a few similarities with other females from One Piece which include Nami, Boa Hancock and Shirahoshi. Both Boa and Big Mom are the only known females who possess all three types of Haki. The two also gained devil fruit powers in an unintentional manner. Shirahoshi and Big Mom are both based on fairy tale characters. Their screams have unique effects. Shirahoshi's screams can summon Sea Kings while as Big Mom's burst of Conqueror's Haki can knock out people. Nami and Big Mom can manipulate weather with the clima-tact and with the combo of Zeus and Prometheus respectively.
Big Mom was a part of Rocks Pirates. The crew also had other big names like Kaido, Whitebeard, Shiki, etc. She was an apprentice on the crew which means that she was involved in the God Valley Incident. This gave her experience and after which she started her own crew.
