While the box-office records of the 1940s are difficult to research--especially concerning exploitation films, such as this one--this film is generally considered to be the top-grossing picture of 1947 and may well be the top-grossing exploitation picture of all time, with an estimated gross in excess of $100 million. Producer Kroger Babb said that each investor got back $63,000 for each $1000 he invested in the film.
During the original roadshow engagements, some different footage was shown during the "Women Only" and the "Men Only" showings.

Gobsmacking slice of 40's exploitation
Its incredible but this $67,000 film made between $40-100 million at the box office! Thats Star Wars money in the 40's. In fact, it was difficult not to know about it back then. Its an old school exploitation film of the, believe it or not, 'sex hygiene' sub-genre. It faced many legal challenges and was even condemned by the National Legion of Decency. It used the tried and tested method of circumventing censorship laws by positioning itself as an educational film. It was never allowed to play in the big cinemas, it instead played mainly as a travelling show at various towns, with separate screenings for women and men. Its storyline is melodramatic nonsense about a girl who falls pregnant to an older boy. She can't tell her mother, as mum's morals are stuck so firmly in the Victorian era that she gathers a posse and gets a teacher at the school fired for teaching sex education! Needless to say, things get worse before they get better. But so what you might think? Where's the money shot in all this carry on? Well, towards the end an obstetrician is wheeled out and he shows some films to a class of teenage girls and this is where things get psychotronic. There is graphic footage of live births - one natural and one Caesarian. The latter is endurance testing stuff I can tell you....ugh! Then there are various images of body parts mutilated with syphilis and venereal disease! Horrible scars, rotting teeth, infected genitals and oozing open sores are the order or the day! There is no build up or warning for any of this stuff! Its all there to educate of course. A proper curiosity piece this one. Well worth watching if you are at all interested in the stranger corners of the cinematic world.

The show puts families to the test in a way that the title doesn’t quite convey. It tells the stories of oversexed teens and the parents who love them — and who’d like them to stop copulating like rabbits, please. Their go-to guy for a rhetorical cold shower: “ Loveline ” mainstay Dr. Drew Pinsky , the Bill Nye the Science Guy of sex; a man who’s become so linked to sober discussion of titillating topics that he can say words on TV that for mere mortals would be bleepable offenses.
I watched two episodes of the show on Sunday night not quite knowing what to expect. The first involved 18-year-old Chasen , a “self-proclaimed club slut” who “treat[s] his mom’s house like his own personal love shack,” a voice-over winkingly intones.
Doughy Chasen and his Rod Stewart haircut have amassed an “F List” — how droll — of more than 40 female sexual partners (apparently, they do think he’s sexy). His mom, understandably, thinks that number’s a might high. So, it’s off to Dr. Drew he goes.
In another episode, a teen named Tiara enlists the good doctor to help her break the news to her parents that she’s sexually active with her college-age boyfriend. Since, y’know, that’s a conversation every teen not only wants to have with Mom and Dad, but wants to have with television cameras and a marketing-savvy sex expert in the room.
I’d like to say that the show is another example of mindless MTV schlock in the vein of “ The Hills ,” but, surprisingly, it isn’t. Amid all the talk of who exchanged which fluid with whom in how many ways is a lesson — but it’s surrounded by enough semi-explicit chatter to make it interesting to an MTV audience.
The other strange after-effect: Watching this show might actually lead teens to talk with their parents about sex, as shudderingly awkward as that might seem. “Sex … With Mom and Dad” shows that their boring old parents might actually know a thing or two about the horizontal mambo and its potential not-so-goose-steppy after-effects.
By talking to his mom, Chasen seems to learn that constant meaningless sex leads to continuing to think of sex as meaningless and prompts more one-night encounters, which runs counter to his goal of eventually maintaining a relationship.
Tiara’s parents provide a cautionary tale: Mom got pregnant at 15 and was thrust into a life of adult decisions while most girls her age were picking out dresses for junior prom. Which seems to help give Tiara a reason to reconsider her regular unprotected trysts with her boyfriend.
Her parents even seem to have fun with the show’s hokey series of icebreaker-ish learning games, although papa Cornelius looks genuinely wounded when he learns that his daughter is sleeping with the guy she spends time with while barricaded in her bedroom. (What did he think they were doing, playing pinochle?)
So good on ya, MTV, for creating a show that’ll actually give teens some nutritious food for thought on a topic you usually address with candy. It doesn’t make up for the cesspool that “ The Real World ” has become, but it’s a nice start.

An Oklahoma woman has recalled the horrifying moment she learned her dad had bedded her best friend.
Autumn Ankerich, 21, shared the shocking story in a TikTok video that has racked up more than 1.7 million views since it was posted earlier this month.
“Thinking about the time on vacation I found a condom wrapper in my dad’s truck from the night before but he was only with me and ‘bff,'” the disturbed daughter captioned the clip.
In a subsequent interview with Jam Press, Ankerich detailed how she confronted her gal pal after finding the incriminating item inside the vehicle.
“I asked her why there was a condom wrapper on the seat and she told me she thought it was a dream,” Ankerich stated.
The frisky friend initially refused to admit she had bedded her bestie’s dad, saying they “just made out.”
However, after further interrogation, the pal eventually admitted to the steamy sex session — prompting the end of their longtime friendship.
According to Ankerich, the backstabbing bestie brazenly bragged about the X-rated romp on social media.
“She posted [about it] on Instagram a few weeks later,” she told Jam Press.
Ankerich and her former friend haven’t seen each other since.
Despite Ankerich’s initial shock, she says that, in retrospect, both her dad and her best friend were acting suspiciously on the night of their truck tryst.
“My friend was flirting with my dad and he was flirting back, so I went to the room as it made me uncomfortable,” she stated. “I used to be a ‘daddy’s girl’ but as I got older and smarter, we grew apart because I realized he wasn’t normal.”
The best friend was over the legal age of consent, and Ankerich does not accuse her father of any criminal wrongdoing.
Meanwhile, the story stunned TikTokers, many of whom responded with quippy comments beneath Ankerich’s video.
“So she was calling him daddy too?” one viewer joked.
“I mean at least he used protection,” another wisecracked.
