An Oregon mom says she feels shocked and dismayed after a stranger found sleeping on her son’s bed attacked her with a piece of furniture, only to learn that charges were dropped against the intruder, FOX 12 reports .
The incident occurred Monday in northeast Portland, where the homeowner, Kelsey Smith, first suspected something was wrong when her dogs began barking.
Smith said she had left the front door open because contractors were supposed to be doing work on an accessible bathroom for her son.
The mother then followed the dogs to her son’s bedroom, where she saw that someone appeared to be under a pile of clothes on a bed.
“The dogs continued to go crazy, specifically my chihuahua, which was running circles around my legs, which was really unusual,” Smith told the television station.
“I followed her to where the other dog was into my children’s bedroom. My lab was standing on top of the bed on top of a pile of clean clothes that I had thrown on there. I walked in wondering if she had cornered a mouse or something because she was going crazy and I realized there was a person under there.”
Smith’s son was not in the room and she initially thought it might have been her husband, but when she called his name, she didn’t get a response.
That’s when she realized it was a stranger.
“I backed out of the room, talking to my friend on the phone saying I needed help, that there was a homeless person in the kid’s bed,” Smith told FOX 12. “At that point she leapt up, I recognized her as a woman. She hopped off the bed and picked up the ottoman at the foot of the bed and bum rushed me, threw it at me, and then meandered out the door.”
A surveillance camera placed in the room, which is used for monitoring the son for medical purposes, captured the incident.
Smith can be heard telling the intruder to leave while her 24-year-old son intervened and called 911.
“My first thought was ‘what is going on?’” Smith told FOX 12. “The fear didn’t come until after she was gone and I started to run through the scenarios in my head about how this could have played out differently if my younger kids had been home. My 24-year-old son heard the commotion and came running upstairs, charging up the stairs because he knew something was wrong. He went straight out the door and into the street following her, calling 911.”
Authorities subsequently arrested 54-year-old Terri Lynn Zinser as she was allegedly attempting to make her way into another residence in the neighborhood.
Zinser was initially charged with burglary and harassment, but public records show she was released from custody on Tuesday. She did not have to pay any bail and was freed via a “court ordered release,” Fox News reports .
Smith reportedly contacted the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office was told that the charges against Zinser were dropped.
“They said the charges have been dropped and that I can leave a message for the DA and he can call you back,” Smith told FOX 12. “I haven’t heard anything and that was two days ago. I have to assume someone heard that message and nobody has gotten back to me. I don’t understand why she is not in jail. She’s not harmless. She proved that. She’s proved that from the stories that I’ve heard from other people.”
Zinser is reportedly known to others in the area, including a neighbor who had posted pictures of her breaking into their home.
The area’s mail carrier allegedly told Smith that Zinser harasses her on the mail route and that “she couldn’t walk down the street without the woman screaming at her, swearing at her, following her around. She told me she doesn’t feel safe around that woman,” Smith told FOX 12.
She added: “I feel like the city is declining rapidly and there is a need for more mental health services, more training for the police, probably more police, more community outreach, but I don’t know.”
After the story came to light, the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office told KATU-TV that it is now reviewing the matter. In a statement to the television station, the office said it is “reviewing this case and the previously dismissed cases to determine whether we are able to proceed with prosecution,” according to KATU-TV.
“Based on recent federal court rulings and recent history with this defendant having similar cases dismissed due to a lack of participation in treatment and the court’s inability to compel the defendant to participate in treatment, we had initial concerns about whether we could proceed with this case at this time. The lack of mental health resources in our community is unacceptable when coupled with the inability to compel unadjudicated defendants to engage in available treatment options.
The current crisis of capacity at the Oregon State Hospital puts the safety of our community, and the most vulnerable persons in our community, at risk. In this particular case, the accused had recently spent months at the Oregon State Hospital during which time the staff there was unable to restore her ability to aid and assist her court appointed lawyer.
She was then ordered to engage in treatment in the community, but she did not appear for her evaluation and she left the treatment facility. Multnomah County Circuit Court Judge Nan Waller dismissed the previous charges pending against her in early August. Our Strategic Prosecution Unit is reviewing this case and the previously dismissed cases to determine whether we are able to proceed with prosecution. Due to the ongoing process, MCDA will not be making further comments on this case.”

“Doomsday” mom Lori Vallow’s only surviving child has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman who recorded him admitting to raping her, according to court documents.
Colby Ryan, 26, was busted in Arizona Saturday and booked into Maricopa County Jail, where he remained on a $10,000 bond Tuesday on two counts of sexual assault, court records show.
He is the surviving son of Vallow, the cult member charged with murdering her other two children, Joshua “JJ” Vallow, 7, and Tylee Ryan, 17, whose bodies were found buried on her new husband’s property in rural Idaho.
Ryan’s accuser claimed that he visited her home in Mesa last Wednesday and pestered her to have sex as they watched TV, according to court documents obtained by The Post.
She begged him to “stop,” saying, “I don’t want to do this” — but the 6-foot-3, 230-pound suspect forced himself on her, according to the complaint.
Throughout, she kept telling him, “‘Stop, I don’t want to do it'” while “trying to push him off,” the complaint said.
After he was done, Ryan “said he was sorry and started to cry,” the complaint alleged.
Ryan slept on the couch after the accuser locked herself in her bedroom.
The next day, she called Ryan and recorded him as he “agreed that he ‘raped’ her” and continued having sex after she begged him to stop, the court document stated.
After his arrest, Ryan also “made verbal admissions” to having sex with the accuser even after she “told him to stop multiple times,” the complaint said.
Ryan has a court date set for Friday. It was not immediately clear if he has an attorney assigned to represent him.
His 49-year-old mom is also behind bars, potentially facing the death penalty if convicted of the crimes she is charged with.
Vallow and her husband Chad Daybell, 52, have pleaded not guilty to murder, conspiracy and grand theft charges in connection with the 2019 deaths of her two younger children from previous relationships.
Idaho law enforcement officers started investigating in November 2019 after extended family members reported that the children were missing.
During that period, police said, the couple lied about the children’s whereabouts. Their bodies were found buried later on Chad Daybell’s property in rural Idaho.
Chad and Lori Daybell married just two weeks after his previous wife, Tammy Daybell, died unexpectedly. Tammy Daybell’s death was initially reported as due to natural causes, but investigators had her body exhumed after growing suspicious when Chad Daybell quickly remarried.
Lori Vallow Daybell is also charged with conspiracy to commit murder in Arizona in connection with the death of her previous husband.
Charles Vallow was shot and killed by Lori Daybell’s brother, Alex Cox, who claimed it was self-defense. Cox later died of what police said was natural causes.

Britney Spears isn’t letting the heat — or ongoing family drama — get to her.
The “Toxic” singer, 40, took to Instagram late Wednesday to share a new clip of herself living her best life on a yacht in a bikini.
“CALM DOWN !!! HELL NO STAY WOKE !!!!! Oh and here’s my ass ,” she joked in the caption of her post, which featured several clips of her sunbathing topless.
Spears stunned in a bright yellow bikini with hot pink trim, with her hair styled in a tight bun.
She later changed into tortoise sunglasses, blue sneakers and a wide brimmed hat as she danced around to “Sauce” by Naïka.
Spears’ latest IG post comes amid drama involving her and ex Kevin Federline’s 15-year-old son, Jayden James, after she responded to his latest public claims .
The pop star shared a voice memo addressing her youngest son’s “60 Minutes Australia” interview, in wish he said he wanted to reunite with her in the future when she “[gets] better mentally.”
“Jayden, as you undermine my behavior just like my whole family always has with, ‘Hope she gets better, I will pray for her’ … Pray for what?” she is heard saying in the audio clip.
“I keep working so I can pay off [my mother Lynne Spears’] legal fees and her house,” she continued, noting that Jayden’s “hateful” remarks stemmed from a fear that her financial obligations to him were ending soon.
Federline — with whom Spears also shares son Sean Preston, 16, with — also took part in the “60 Minutes Australia” interview.
“Do you guys want me to get better so I can continue to give your dad $40,000 a month?” Spears said in her voice note, shading her ex.
“Or is the reasoning behind you guys deciding to be hateful is because it’s actually over in two years and you don’t get anything?”
Jayden — who skipped his mom’s June wedding to husband Sam Asghari — told celebrity interviewer Daphne Barak that he and his brother wanted their mom to get “better.”
However, Spears said she really needed the pair’s “unconditional love and support.”
“It saddens me not one of you have valued me as a person. You’ve witnessed how my family has been to me and that’s all you know. Like I said, I feel you all secretly like to say something’s wrong with me,” she explained.
In the voice memo, Spears also recalled a conversation she had with Jayden before he and Preston allegedly made the decision to stop visiting her.
“I will say it. I sat in that kitchen and looked you straight in the eyes, beautiful boy, and said, ‘How come I can’t see you guys anymore? Or just see you guys more? I look forward to seeing you guys weekly,’” Spears said.
“You said, ‘Mama, oh, it’ll change.’”

Mom Reveals Truth Behind Video Of Her Son’s Damage To Her Home After Getting Slammed Online
By NyRee Ausler — Written on Sep 16, 2022
A woman was stunned after son's mental health episode resulted in a viral video that caused him to get shamed online.
In a video that was shared without her consent, the mom recorded the damage her son caused in her home.
As she walked through the home, it appeared as though everything that could have been broken, was.
Windows were shattered, appliances were knocked over, and even permanent fixtures like countertops and walls were not spared from the boy’s destruction.
The mother can be heard crying as she takes in the damage her child had done, and to add to her despair, the person to whom she sent the video later betrayed her and decided to share it on social media — it soon went viral.
To add fuel to the fire, the public scrutiny that followed called the mother’s parenting into question and prompted social media users to comment on the punishment they thought her son should suffer.
Although it was initially reported that the son was 12 years old, his mother said that the boy is 15.
She further described him as six feet tall and 270 pounds, giving everyone insight into how he was able to cause so much devastation.
I have no reason to lie. That’s wack and stupid. Here’s the proof. Now go donateeeeee! pic.twitter.com/LLSAipKrKk

The original tweet claimed that the reason her son destroyed their home was that she took his phone away — none of it was true.
Per the mother, her son has suffered from mental health issues since he was a small child, and the incident was due to his refusal to take his medication.
Due to a recent surgery she had undergone and the boy’s size and strength, his mom was unable to stop his violent attack.
She was resigned to locking his sister in a room for protection and yelling out for help.
One Twitter user assumed that the distraught mother had shared the video and openly criticized her actions, but they forget that she didn't share the video herself.
Idk I’m not going to record a video, sniffling and crying for sympathy just for strangers to tell me to beat my son. I would reflect on my parenting and get the boy some help. No sane person rages that long and destroys their own home over a phone. https://t.co/2nURbXgdgL

Others empathized with the struggle she was having in dealing with her son and offered encouragement.
The woman moved to Florida five years ago and had experienced homelessness with her two children.
The family she had lived with previously could not tolerate her son’s unstable behavior.
Eventually, she was able to provide a home for her family and get back all she had lost.
However, now that she has lost everything once again, the mother will need to put her financial resources into replacing all the things her son destroyed.
To assist with the damages, a friend has created a GoFundMe on her behalf with the goal of bringing in $10,000.
— SHANIA (@_sjae) September 14, 2022
Since then, the campaign has raised over $30,000.
Understanding that she is unable to handle her son’s destructive outbursts and the mental health treatment needed, the mother gets that he will no longer be able to reside in the home.
She is being assisted with resources to help her and her family recover from the traumatic incident.
