Mom and Dad is a feature-length 1945 film directed by William Beaudine, and largely produced by the exploitation film maker and presenter Kroger Babb. Mom and Dad is considered the most successful film within its genre of "sex hygiene" films. Although it faced numerous legal challenges and was condemned by the National Legion of Decency, it became one of the highest-grossing films of the 1940s.

The film is regarded as an exploitation film as it was repackaged controversial content designed to establish an educational value that might circumvent U.S. censorship laws. Babb's marketing of his film incorporated old-style medicine show techniques, and used unique promotions to build an audience. These formed a template for his later works, which were imitated by his contemporary filmmakers. In 2005, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". The Academy Film Archive preserved Mom and Dad in 2010.

As a study by researchers from the University of Zurich shows, mothers and fathers are more satisfied with their roles today than in the past. For the woman, motherhood is no longer seen as essential for personal fulfillment. The responsibilities of both parents are shared equally and both are equally involved in the upbringing of their children.
The mother takes care of the children, the father works full time: these were the traditional roles, which remained unchanged for a long time. But in the past few decades, the roles have changed. Motherhood is no longer seen as an essential part of female fulfillment. It is no longer common for mothers to give up their work for the family and the role of fathers in raising children is increasingly active.
Researchers from the University of Zurich carried out a study to determine how much these social changes affected the personal satisfaction of mothers and fathers.
The experts evaluated the study data of theBerlin Institute for Economic Research (DIW) – whose data are representative of Germany – which contains data on over 18,000 women and nearly 12,000 men interviewed between 1984 and 2015.
Says Klaus Preisner ofIUH Institute of Sociology: “While the prevailing media message in recent years is that modern parents are highly stressed or even regret having become parents, our analysis shows the opposite.”
In the survey carried out in the 1980s, most mothers were less satisfied with their lives than women without children. The idea that having a child would bring great happiness did not translate into reality for many women. Preisner states:
“With the growing freedom to choose whether or not to have a child and shape parenting in a more individual way, the idea of happiness has no longer been associated with that of motherhood. Today we no longer find a difference in the life satisfaction of mothers and of women without children ”
The picture is also different for men: in the past, unlike women, men were not expected to play an active role in childcare, take parental leave or reduce working hours after having children.
It emerges from the study that aeven for men there is no difference in the satisfaction of their lives between fathers and childless men.
Socio-cultural changes have made it possible for mothers and fathers to choose more freely how they want to organize their family life with regard to childcare. Nowadays roles and responsibilities are more evenly distributed between mum and dad and this has a positive effect on the personal satisfaction of parents.
Greater freedom of choice and greater equality of roles for mothers and fathers has been encouraged – and in some cases even made possible – by modern family policies. The parental leave it allows mothers and fathers to share responsibilities in raising children and to be involved in their upbringing. Klaus Preisner also sees another advantage:
“These family policy measures are not only significant for gender equality. However, they are important because they improve the personal satisfaction of parents and, consequently, of the children themselves.”
