An Oklahoma mother who married her daughter after the two “hit it off” was sentenced Tuesday to two years in prison after pleading guilty to incest.
Patricia Ann Spann, 45, of Norman, Okla., pleaded guilty to the felony offense and admitted she married her biological daughter, 26-year-old Misty Velvet Dawn Spann. She must also register as a sex offender after her release from prison, the Oklahoman reported.
Spann accepted a plea deal and was also sentenced to eight years on probation and fined $1,500.
The Duncan Police Department was informed of the incestuous marriage by an employee with the state's Department of Human Services. The employee found out about the marriage during a “child welfare investigation,” police said.
The mother and daughter wed in March 2016 after they reunited in 2014. Patricia had lost custody of Misty years before but the two "hit it off" after reuniting.
Their marriage was annulled in October 2017 after a judge decided the “mother had induced her daughter by fraud to enter the marriage.”
Spann said she thought the marriage to her daughter was legal because she had lost custody of her and two sons years ago, and she is not listed on their birth certificates.
Prosecutors said Spann also married one of her sons in 2008 but the marriage was annulled in 2010 due to incest, the Associated Press reported.
Misty Spann pleaded guilty to incest in November in exchange for probation. However, her plea was withdrawn when it was determined she had been given a deferred sentence, which is not allowed under state law. She is slated to enter a new plea next week.

A North Carolina mother and her adult son were charged with incest in Asheville, North Carolina, according to multiple reports.
The Citizen-Times reported Friday, September 9, that Melissa Nell Kitchens, 45, and son Shaun Thomas Pfeiffer, 25, each face one felony incest charge after arrest warrants alleged they had sex.
Pfeiffer is also facing charges of indecent liberties with a child from a separate incident that allegedly took place August 13, according to ABC .
Incest laws differ from state to state in the United States. In North Carolina, there are three degrees of crime associated with incest. According to AgeOfConsent.net , a Class B1 felony could lead to a prison sentence of a minimum of 25 years; a Class C felony is punishable by 44 to 182 months; and a Class F felony ranges from a 10- to 41-month sentence.
In January 2015, Kitchens praised her son's good looks in a comment on one of his Facebook photos. "Can't get over How Handsome You Are and I'm about to Cry. … You've Got a Heart of Gold— Never Let Anyone Hurt You. … I miss you& wish I had more time w you," she wrote. (According to Pfeiffer's Facebook profile, he is married.)
Pfeiffer and Kitchens were taken to the Buncombe County Detention Facility. According to the Citizen-Times, he is being held on $70,500 bail while she is being held on $30,000 bail. Both are set to appear in Buncombe County District Court Friday, September 29.
This isn't the only incest case to make headlines recently. Oklahoma mom Patricia Ann Spann, 43, was arrested and charged with incest after marrying her daughter, Misty Velvet Dawn Spann. Patricia was previously married to her son in 2008.

The British video release, on Warner's Maverick Director's label, was cut by 1m 42s by the BBFC. Early copies of this version, released in 1997, were accidentally mastered with the uncut version. These were quickly recalled and replaced with the BBFC approved version, but some uncut copies were sold - they can be identified by the code on the spine of the tape (082897). The cuts were made to the rape scenes and to a shot of Thana severing a dead man's arm with a bread knife. The use of a set of nunchakus was also removed.

Neneh Cherry already specifically stated in a song that this is a woman's world, so who are we to argue with that? Women RULE this world, whether they carry around .45 caliber guns or not Infamous cult movie director Abel Ferrara's interpretation of feminism revolves on a mute and seemly defenseless young beauty that wipes male scum from the face of the earth with a pistol. After being the victim of assault and attempted rape TWICE in one afternoon, Thana kills her second assailant and chops up his corpse in the bathtub. Whilst getting rid of the bagged body parts, she randomly kills numerous other men on the trash-filled streets of New York. "Ms.45" has quite a lot in common with Ferrara's breakthrough film "the Driller Killer", except that it doesn't contain so many tedious moments and that you actually have sympathy for the Thana character, whereas Reno Miller could die instantly for all I cared. Strictly talking from a cinematic point of view, "Ms.45" is a much better film than "Driller Killer" as well. Ferrara manages to retain his depressing yet realistic portrait of dead-end New York, but the camera-work is much more steady and versatile. Zoë Lund, who remarkably looks like Nastassja Kinski, is a terrific anti-heroine and the fact she plays a mute even increases the complexity of her character. Lund later co-wrote "Bad Lieutenant" before sadly passing away at the young age of 37, due to heart failure. Unfortunately, however, "Ms.45" didn't stand the test of time very well. The graphic violence and definitely the controversy has been surpassed severely nowadays and I sincerely doubt that the new Playstation-generation will be impressed by Ferrara's take on the explicit revenge-flick trend. Luckily selected group of film buffs including myself still consider this to be a quintessential cult gem that'll live on forever. Kill 'em all, Thana!
