Mojtaba Khamenei has been elected Iran's new Supreme Leader.

At today's emergency meeting, Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei was unanimously elected by the distinguished representatives of the Council of Experts as the third leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran's sacred system,

according to a statement from the Council of Experts.

Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei is the second son of former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who was killed on February 28 in the US-Israeli attacks. He worked for many years in the Supreme Leader's office and is well acquainted with the structure of the IRGC.
