Mojang Pays Tribute To Technoblade On The Minecraft Loading Screen
The death of Minecraft YouTuber Technoblade (opens in new tab) last week after a year-long struggle with cancer drew an outpouring of tributes from fellow streamers and Minecraft content creators. Mojang, the Minecraft studio, also paid respects to Technoblade by making a subtle but significant change to the Minecraft Java Edition loading screen.
Mojang, which was the first to announce Technoblade's death, tweeted its own tribute on July 1.
We've been trying for the right words, but we all at Minecraft are devastated by the loss Technoblade. He was a great friend and brought joy to our community. He will be deeply missed. July 1, 2022
"We have been trying for the words, but all the people here at Minecraft are heartbroken by the loss Technoblade," the studio wrote. "He meant so many things to our community and brought us so much joy. He will be missed dearly."
Soon after, Minecraft fans noticed a more unique tribute to Technoblade on Minecraft Java Edition loading pages: A previously undescript pig in background is now wearing a crown. This is a subtle but clear nod to Technoblade’s famed crowned-pig avatar and YouTube (opens new tab) icon.
It isn't clear at this stage whether the change will remain permanent, but I expect it to. The change has been a huge success in the Minecraft community. The Techno Updates account tweeted about the change and it has received more than 237,000 likes.
