It goes without saying the internet is a strange place. It’s basically infinite, which means almost anything is possible here. Those of us tasked with delving into the web for trends (clickbaiters) occasionally get insights into unique cultural moments, like the latest trend for the last 24 hours “mei overwatch rule 34.”
Anytime ‘rule 34’ is invoked there is generally a collective eye roll alongside it. But it's so significant a trend that no less than The Washington Post explored the issue a few months ago, and it's highly trafficked Urban Dictionary page all but cements its legacy as an internet touchstone. Of course, rule 34 is all about context. Poke around Google (away from work) and you might be surprised/horrified at how much you find. The ‘mei overwatch rule 34’ trend itself is fairly predictable, but not without its own surprises.
For starters, there are plenty of other female characters in Overwatch that seem like more obvious choices for a rule 34 spike. Like, pretty much any of them seem like they’d inspire a bit more sexual fetishism than Mei. But they’re not. Mei’s rise to the top of the Overwatch rule 34 heap is significant, since it stands to reason the launch of competitive play in Overwatch this week resulted in a flood of new/returning players. And somewhere amidst this surge of gamers a zeitgeist of sexual curiosity arose. Mei, with her oversized parka and Velma glasses, is causing all sorts of randiness.
Is it the parka? There is plenty of evidence that less is more when it comes to attraction and maybe fans are focusing on Mei because she leaves the most to the imagination. And, to be fair to the artists slaking the Mei thirst, the depictions are fairly body-positive . Mei would be right at home in a Dove campaign. There is certainly some exaggeration to her form, but it’s more Venus of Willendorf than Barbie of Malibu.
Mei doesn’t exude much sexuality either, especially compared to Tracer’s cockney accent and controversial posterior or Widowmaker’s whole vibe of lithe purple maneater . Mei seems nice. If you asked her to coffee she’d probably say ‘yes’ and order cocoa instead. She’s the gentle, unintimidating girl next door who wears your hoodie while you’re away at summer camp because she misses you. The “mei overwatch rule 34” results are a little less wholesome, of course, but don’t stray into anything all that outrageous or creative.
And so what if they did? It’s not like Mei is a real person. When it comes to the porn-opticon available online there is still a certain stigma attached to cartoons and comics and hentai. Everyone getting their jollies to some “mei overwatch rule 34” content is passively supporting the most ethical porno around. Think about it. The real, physical, flesh and [redacted] porn industry enjoyed by the overwhelming majority of the population is by most accounts a terrible thing. Whether its graphic tales of mistreatment from stars or lawsuits against revenge porn sleazebags or STD epidemics the porn industry is anything but victimless.
So maybe we shouldn’t treat the rule 34 stuff as fringe or freakish. Overwatch is undeniably the hottest game in the world right now, boasting millions of players every week. Its players ARE the mainstream. And those players are more interested in the contents of a cartoon parka than they are almost anything else in the game. And while we might never know why, I won’t complain. For better or worse gaming has a perception of having a seedy misogynistic underbelly obsessed with shallow, sexualized women. So it’s nice for gamers when our rule 34s say otherwise.

When people ask for sauce “for research” and they actually use it for research.
Kinda surprised that Tracer and Brig aren't higher from what I've seen.
Moira too… people find her ugly for some reason. Idk seems like a dom to me lmao
Inspired by this post . I went ahead and made one for Overwatch. All of the characters are arranged by their numbers from left to right
I don't know how to do research so the numbers are not that accurate as there are other IP characters that have the same name. I do deduct some of them out but would be glad to have some people correct me.
- Mercy has the most search results topping at 11339, followed by Dva 10907 and widow 9139. The rest of the female heroes didn't make it to 7000. Tracer comes close to 6658 and Moira has the least search results at 457
- Most of the male heroes average from Junkrat 266 to Mccree almost a thousand at 968
- The least amount of r34 is Lucio 16, Baptiste 17 and Sigma 20.
- Hammond has more r34 than them total at 28 + 5 (I search wrecking ball and Hammond)
- As for non-human characters Orisa top the score at 392 then Winston at total of 285 furry porn.
- Zarya is an interesting one. Most of her r34 is her fucking people, less getting fuck. Holy shit.
How the fuck is Zen not in the bottom three
Zarya got the big dick Russian energy.
There is that one French girl who draws the sigma nudes
Is there really exactly 69 torb pics?
i get that baps a newer character but he’s fine as hell how is there more for fucking monke then him
I’m upset for Baptiste. Guy is charismatic with a good heart. There deserves to be more porn of him!
There’s really not enough sigma r34 but we make do with what we have :/
Not many can capture the beauty of his toes
I'm actually genuinely surprised he isn't one or two tiers up. Esp after that summer games skin 😩

Do not even hope that you will be able to feel Overwatch 2 again before the release. Yesterday, Blizzard VP John Spector announced that the studio is no longer planning to host public tests: Only two months left before the launch of Overwatch 2! We know players can't wait to dive into the game and have seen questions about the possibility of a third public beta. While we will continue to test OW2 internally on a daily basis , we are not planning any additional public beta tests. With all the valuable feedback we've received throughout the alpha and two public betas, we're focusing our efforts on launching the best version of the game possible on October 4th. Not the best news for fans of the game. According to fans, and many journalists, the shooter could use at least one more test. Otherwise, developers risk getting a lot of criticism at the start because of any, even the smallest problems that could be weeded out during a new beta. Overwatch 2 releases October 4th on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series. ...
Blizzard is continuing to respond to fans upset by the possibility of more expensive skins in Overwatch 2. Overwatch 2 has been announced as free-to-play when it finally launches in October. This relieved the Overwatch community after spending years accusing Blizzard of releasing Overwatch 2 as a full game when many felt it could have been a big update to the original title. Whether the game is worthy of its own title or not, it’s now free. But will Blizzard try to make back some of its money by charging more for skins this time around? Some fans think so after seeing a concerning survey floating around. Blizzard responds to Overwatch 2 skins being more expensive At the end of July, one Twitter user shared screenshots of a survey their friend received from Blizzard that included some concerning possibilities. The survey included questions about skin prices, asking survey takers how likely they’d be to buy a Mythic skin for $44.99. Another asked about weapon charms priced at $9.99. https://twitter.com/Portergauge/status/1553204606997446656?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1553204606997446656%7Ctwgr%5E183e9a88b6ec1e0c8a3b27677722617882916fee%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwin.gg%2Fnews%2Fare-overwatch-2-skins-going-to-be-more-expensive%2F The survey screenshots caused a huge uproar on Twitter, with the Overwatch community panicking about the idea of Blizzard overcharging for skins. This seemed like a legitimate possibility given Diablo Immortal’s hefty microtransactions. A Blizzard spokesperson finally spoke up about the concerns. In a statement to IGN, the Blizzard spokesperson explained that the survey was solely intended to “understand player preferences” for Overwatch 2’s new cosmetics. While the prices in the survey were apparently randomized, many players still feel on edge about the potentially high price tags if enough players respond that they’re fine with the pricey mythic skins. Some players on Twitter even admitted they’d pay the $45 if the skin came with animations and other special visuals. “And it’s because of these kinds of opinions and people such as yourself that this is now seen as okay. $45, bro. That’s an entire game. You really, truly think a single texture and set of animations and sound FX is worth the same as an AAA title? Lmao. You’re screwing us all,” one player responded. Blizzard will allegedly be sharing more details on Overwatch 2’s shop and new battle pass system closer to the game’s launch in early October. But it still has Overwatch players on edge that Overwatch 2 skins may be more expensive moving forward. Source: https://win.gg/news/are-overwatch-2-skins-going-to-be-more-expensive/ ...
Can you imagine that during a football match, the time when the teams equalized the score was drastically reduced? Here's something Blizzard did during one of the recent Overwatch Contenders matches. During the selection for the finals, the teams 01 Esports and Munich Esports met and Blizzard set the following conditions for the match: seven rounds, the best team wins. The teams clarified this because they play five rounds closer to the finals, but they were assured that everything would be like this. Munich Esports starts to lead, takes three wins, and then 01 Esports returns to the game and almost evens the score - 3:2. After that, Blizzard interrupts the match and declares Munich Esports the winner. The organizers referred to the fact that such matches are usually held in five rounds. After such behavior of the organizers of the team, Ex Oblivione and 01 Esports agreed not to play the next match. They just stood all game time. For this, Blizzard gave them a disqualification warning, but after that, fans came and began to resent the behavior of the company. After that, the organizers announced that the match between 01 Esports and Munich Esports will continue and the teams will play two more rounds. Naturally, such decisions are not made by the top of Blizzard and not by the developers themselves, but the situation still hurts the reputation of the company, which is now already suffering from various cases. ...

The Overwatch 2 beta wraps up on July 18, and despite a few areas left to iron out, things are actually coming together quite nicely when it comes to gameplay and overall feel. Overwatch 2’s second beta came at a time of a lot of uncertainty about the upcoming sequel. The first beta period had left a lot of questions and laid bare plenty of issues with the new build. However, the second beta has actually taken care of a lot of problems players had with the first playtest, and put to rest many fears about how the game will transition from 6v6 to 5v5 come October. There are still plenty of areas to improve on, and balance issues to address, but if devs can keep fixing the things that need fixing like they have been, there’s reason to be cautiously optimistic about Overwatch 2. Moira saw a massive rework during the second beta, but will definitely need more work before full release. What does Overwatch 2 need? Balance We’ll start with what still needs work in Overwatch 2: balance. It’s great to see changes being made to heroes we know and love, but as it currently stands some are just massively OP compared to others (looking at you, Moira). However, in Moira’s case it is somewhat understandable, as she’s gotten a massive rework to her kit that will take some time to tweak and get just right. On the other side of things though is Sojourn. At the time of writing we’re a few days away from the end of the second beta, which means players have had time to play with her and get fairly proficient with her abilities. In this author’s opinion, Sojourn is the most OP hero currently on the Overwatch 2 roster, and needs some serious work before October 4. There have been plenty of instances where a halfway-decent Sojourn is able to shred an entire enemy push, without even using her ultimate. To put things simply: Sojourn is far too powerful, even for a damage hero. Her ability to one shot not just other DPS and Supports, but close to full health Tanks is simply overkill, and will make her a must-pick going forward unless something is done to rein her in. Junker Queen has breathed new life into Overwatch almost all on her own since she was revealed. What does Overwatch 2 do well? Fun! Overwatch 2 does a great job at bringing back the feeling of fun from the early days of Overwatch that seems to have become harder to find in recent years. There’s no doubt about it: Junker Queen is very fun to play, as well as the entire Tank role as a whole. You really feel like you’re putting the team on your back — though the long queue times can be a buzzkill. Support also feels much more critical. If you don’t have both healers doing their jobs, it will be very easy for the enemy team to exploit this and punish your lone tank. Sure, some of this fun might be chalked up to so much being new and could wear off as time goes on, but if you’ve played the beta as a returning Overwatch player, you’ve probably got a feeling of fun you haven’t in quite some time. Hopefully, Blizzard can keep making the changes they need to in order for Overwatch 2 to be the roaring success we’ve been waiting for since 2019. Yesterday, Blizzard released an update to the Overwatch 2 beta that included some balance adjustments for a number of heroes. A complete list of these changes can be found below. Doomfist The minimum amount of damage absorbed by Power Block required to charge Rocket Strike has been reduced from 100 to 90. Power Block now reduces movement speed while blocking damage by 30% instead of 50%. Jet Strike now deals damage to all enemies knocked back by Doomfist (previously only dealt to the first one hit). Queen of the Vultures Rallying Cry radius reduced from 20 to 15 yards. The health added to allies now decreases over time. Rallying Cry maximum duration increased from 4 to 5 seconds. Ultimate radius reduced from 6m to 5m. Orisa Shielding Field now protects Orisa from critical hits. Spear Spin movement speed bonus increased from 40% to 50%. Sojorn Normal fire rate reduced from 15 to 14 rounds per second. PKM projectile radius now changes depending on the energy level of the gun from 0 to the previous value of 0.1 m. The higher the energy level, the greater the radius of the projectile. Symmetra RMB charging time reduced from 1.2 sec to 1 sec. PKM projectile radius increased from 0.4 to 0.5 m. Teleport CD reduced from 16 to 12 seconds. Zenyatta Shields reduced from 175 to 150. Among the important fixes: Fixed an issue that caused Soldier 76's Sprint to increase run speed by 40% instead of 50%. ...
