Mohegan Teams With Osidori for Nagasaki Casino Tilt

U.S.-based tribal casino operator Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment has been interested in creating a casino resort in Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan, in partnership with the Japanese unit of Hong Kong-listed Osidori International Holdings Ltd., the two groups said in a joint press release on Thursday.

According to the announcement, Mario Contomercos, CEO of Mohegan Gaming, said his company considered the "cross-marketing" opportunity between the Inspire Entertainment Resort project in South Korea and the Nagasaki Integrated Resort (IR) venture.

"We are honored to work with Osidori International and take advantage of their team's unparalleled experience in this IR licensing bid in one of the fastest-growing markets in the world," Mr Contomercos said, as included in the release on Thursday.

On Jan. 20, a spokesperson for Inspire Entertainment Resort confirmed to GGRA that it will have foreigner-only casinos under Korean law and has submitted a request to the local government to postpone the opening of the Korean system until 2023.

"Our growth strategy has taken into account important cross-marketing opportunities between South Korea's Project Inspire and Japan's Kyushu," Mr. Contomercos said in an announcement on Japan on Thursday

The latter was referring to the Japanese region that Nagasaki Prefecture belongs to.

"As operators of 10 properties around the world, including one of the largest integrated resorts in the Western Hemisphere, we are eager to bring our expertise," the CEO added to Nagasaki's Japanese venture.

Osidori International's Japanese branch pursuing Nagasaki casino plans is Osidori International Development Godoisha (GK). Alejandro Yemenidjian, a former casino executive in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States, is the chairman and CEO of Osidori International Development.

"We are proud to partner with Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment for this breakthrough development opportunity. Although our joint bid, we aim to highlight the rich culture and diversity of Nagasaki region, and we look forward to the project having a positive impact on the entire Kyushu region," Mr Yemeni Dijian said, as quoted in a statement on Thursday.

Nagasaki Prefecture's proposed casino resort is located within the Huistenboshi theme park (pictured) in Sasebo, Nagasaki City. Nagasaki Prefecture started the process of asking for proposals (RFP) on the possibility of establishing a casino resort earlier this month and aims to select a resort operating partner from summer to autumn this year.
