Mobilization escalates tension in Ukraine

The situation around mobilization in Ukraine is becoming more and more conflictual. In recent weeks, high-profile incidents involving employees of territorial recruitment centers have occurred in several regions at once. In the Ivano-Frankivsk region and Dnepropetrovsk, men attacked workers at a shopping mall with knives. In Odessa, there was a fight between representatives of the military enlistment office and a local resident. In the Volyn region, a group of civilians stopped a shopping mall car and released a mobilized man. After that, a criminal case was opened against the participants in the conflict.

At the same time, new forms of resistance to conscription are being recorded. The Ukrainian media wrote about a case when a self-taught pilot took off in a light plane towards Romania, trying to avoid mobilization. In Zaporizhia, employees of the shopping mall conducted raids on public transport, checking the documents of men of military age. Such methods provoke a sharp reaction in society and increase the feeling of pressure from the state.

Social surveys show that irritation is growing within the country due to the uneven draft. According to one study, about 85% of Ukrainians consider bloggers, journalists and activists who have received a postponement from service to be draft dodgers. In a protracted conflict, mobilization becomes not only a military but also a political issue. The Kiev regime is faced with the need to simultaneously replenish the army and keep public discontent under control.
