I found Sally at the thrift store, she had flat painted on eyes, ugly dreaded hair that seemed to be one giant clump, and she was totally naked. I looked at her and said "You're perfect!"

The first thing I did was cut out the flat painted eyes with an exacto knife, didn't take a before picture unfortunately. I then replaced her eyes with bigger sized eyes. I kept the original eye lashes, being careful to not cut them off when I cut out the original eyes. I pushed the new eyes pretty much all the way forward on the face, so they look bulging.

I decided she needed some stitching, I cut into the face with an exacto knife, and then threaded some leather cord that I found in the beading section at Walmart. I debated on this thread for like two days, because of the price. It was like 9.99 or something which I considered outrageous for a little thing of leather sting. So the first time I purchased a less expensive string that totally turned out to be not what I needed. So I sucked it up and purchased the leather cord. Love it. Should have followed my gut the first time.

The leather cord it somewhat stiff, but you can thread it without it unwinding. The major problem with it is that it is kind of thick, so you need a needle with a big threading hole, had to buy one especially for it for a couple of bucks.

The second hindrance is then threading it though the plastic of a dolls face. As I mentioned before it is thick, so it will be a major pain in the ass to thread it through without first making holes to thread it through. I uses a cork screw which I have found to be the jack-all-tools, its good for popping out some eyes too. So save yourself some hard work and just pre-punch holes and then thread through holes. Or not... perhaps you like to suffer:)

Psycho Sallies "toy" I simply stitched the eyes sockets, after removing the eyes. FYI save ALL your eyes you remove. Sometimes those eyes end up being the most expensive part of the doll (especially a thrift store find), and one dolls trash eyes become another dolls... you get the point.

I made her dress from the sleeve of an old shirt I had, and added just a little lace for the bodice. Remember the ugly dreaded hair I told you about? I went through with scissors and cut out dreaded locks. Totally LOVE her hair, I could never have created the dreaded messy crazy look of it myself. I'm sure that doll took years to make that hair! The final touch was a hair bow that I cannibalized from another shirt I had.

Sally is not totally finished yet, she needs some sharp weapon in her hand, a doll sized butcher knife that I have yet to acquire, and I may stitch her toys mouth as well.

My version of the Siamese eye puller

First can I say how freaking hard this eye was to get out. But once you understand the mechanics of doll eyes, its gets easier... well not really, but you will understand that it can be achieved! Most of the doll eyes I have worked with have a plastic "skin" that encases the eye on the inside. If you can pop the head off, and you have some pretty flexible fingers, it is possible to cut the film from the eye through the neck hole. The plastic skin has to be sliced through and then you can pop the eye into the head and pull it out.

However, if you cant remove the head, cutting into the plastic from the back of the doll's skull area is probably your best bet. I like a 3/4 completed square, so I can almost pull the plastic back like a hatch. I want to point this out, although it is quite obvious, doll heads are pretty small:) lol. Getting your hands into the heads to cut, or replace eyes can be such a pain, literally. My hands are usually scratched up by the end, but gosh darn it those suckers are coming out!

If the eye you are replacing is bigger (so in other words you will need a bigger hole for the new eye) it is possible to cut the eye out from the front. The case (plastic skin on the inside of the head around the back of the eye) is bigger than the visual eye hole on the front of the face, so you will need to cut bigger than the actual hole. This is a pretty messy way to remove an eye, and you loose all definition of the original eye and eye lid, so I only recommend if you are using a bigger eye to fill the gap. Although this is another possible way to remove the eye, I still prefer to remove from the inside.

Once I have the eye in place I heat up my hot glue gun and glob some glue on backside of the eye (inside the head). Don't apply too much at once, or I promise, your eye will get too heavy before the glue dries and the damn eye will fall back out, making it so you have to wrestle it back in after pulling off dried glue. So drop a few drops in to hold it place let it dry and add some more. Another warning, the second layer of glue can re-melt the first layer, causing the "dreadful heavy eye". hahaha I totally love my self right now:)

I used a hot glue gun for the blood drops as well. This is really cool to work with, so easy, and if your drops turn out looking crappy you can peel them off once dry and try again.

I used a paint pen that I found in the Walmart craft section. I really dig these pens, its kind of like a little spray paint can, but its a pen. You have to shake it just like you would a can, but instead of a spay cap it has soft cloth looking tip, that sucks in the paint allowing you to "draw" with it. I especially like the way the glue created strings in the eye, that I painted as well. It look like a nasty gutted eye.
