I want to get a helmet as a gift for my SO. We were at a snowmobile trade show/swap-and-shop a few months ago and they had a bunch of 509 helmets there. Even though they were 10% off at most places, they were still pretty expensive. Ranging from $250-$450. I usually buy him something snowmobile related for Christmas as it makes sense for the time of year it is. We are both avid snowmobilers. I prefer trail, he prefers more technical and mountain. He has had the same helmet for way to long. It probably only has a season left on it, if that. So, I thought it would make sense to buy him a new helmet. I am looking at the ones he was browsing at the show. Below is a link to the helmet I am considering getting him.
Here is where I need your help. It seems the biggest difference between the $350 one and the $450 one is something called, "MIPS Brain Protection System (BPS)," and "Fidlock." Is it really worth the extra $100 for these features? Have you used them?
p.s. please don't suggest a different brand, unless it really, truly is worth it. I know he was looking at these ones and liked them. I would hate to pick a different brand and have him hate it.
Just get him the regular altitude instead of the carbon fiber one and get him extra goggles. I recently got the altitude and sinister x5 goggle combo for 270 on amazon and that deal is else where like dennis kirk. Unless he already has a bunch of goggles, you're better off spending that extra money to make sure he has 2 pairs of goggles so he can swap if conditions get bad. ive had both the fid lock and the plain and id rather have more goggles. MY 2 cents anyway
I think he was pretty set on the carbon fiber one due to weight. I think he already has several pairs of goggles. I know I bought him another pair just last year.

However, I don't think the potential pitfalls are discussed as often as they should be. I hope this is informative. You are so cute together! I like how you started to take over more and more when your girlfriend couldn't talk from the heat!
I absolutely HATE spicy food. Cracked black pepper kills me. So the fact he somehow talked me into this is a miracle in its own right. I'm glad you liked it though. I do a lot of different kinds of unboxings and this was one of my favorites.
