A North Carolina couple is accused of conspiring to carry out the murder of the husband’s mistress, police said.
On Aug. 7, Scotland Neck police responded to the scene of a single-vehicle wreck just after 3:30 a.m. and discovered the car's driver, Latoya Lawrence , 43, dead from a gunshot wound.
Investigators determined Lawrence was involved in a domestic incident with the suspect, 38-year-old Antonio Clark , who officers arrested later that day.
Two days after the murder, police also took into custody Akeshia Hudson Clark , 37, on suspicion she and her husband conspired to kill Lawrence.
“He was having an affair with the victim in this case,” Scotland Neck Police Chief John Tippett told the Rocky Mount Telegram .
Tippet said Antonio Clark allegedly fired into Lawrence’s vehicle 50 yards from where it crashed into a light pole.
The couple were booked into the Halifax County Detention Center without bond and each charged with first-degree murder , felony conspiracy, and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle.
“I’d like to thank the citizens who gave information as well as businesses — as far as witnesses and providing camera footage as well,” Tippet said, according to The Daily Herald .
