IT'S not everyday that a Dominatrix walks into the First Dates restaurant, but mum-of-three Sherry wasn't shy when it came to talking about her job.
The 65-year-old, from Swindon, revealed that her alter-ego Mistress Sophia's 'slaves' range in age from 21 to 84, and insists that her BDSM career path is no different to any other.
Speaking to First Dates barman Merlin Griffiths , she said: "It’s not sexual. I don’t touch them, they don’t touch me, apart from my feet."
She added: "My children know what I do. All my neighbours know. My friends know. I don’t mix business with pleasure. It’s business.
"I don’t want to be dominant in a relationship. I would like it to be on an even keel, so that we both respect each other.
"I think I’m single because it takes a special person to accept what I do."
Sherry, who has been single for seven years, was matched with confident 67-year-old chartered surveyor John.
He told the Channel 4 cameras: "I am an excellent catch. I have charisma, personality, looks, charm, I’m in good shape.
Sherry on first dates is just fabulous.
"I’ve got a bob or too. Good lord. Everything in one package, it’s beyond belief."
During her date, Sherry gave an eye-opening account of life as a dominatrix.
She said: "I have slaves and they do my housework, any jobs I want doing. I’ve got a couple of judges, I’ve got solicitors, I’ve got a bowel surgeon.
"I’ve got a puppy cage because I do puppy play. They like to feed out of the bowl, dog food of course, and then I put them in the cage.
"I’ve got a bone and a ball, they play in the garden. They do whatever I want them to do."
She added: "I guess I have an alter-ego, where Mistress Sophia is the dominatrix and Sherry is just me. And I don’t mix the two.
"With my work, I’m a bit like a therapist. I have one guy, his doctor said he would be losing his legs if he didn’t stop smoking. He tried everything to give up."
Sherry explained that she became a dominatrix when her husband of 25 years left her for another woman - leaving behind spiralling debts and a "huge mortgage".
She added: "My ex-husband left me in a very embarrassing financial condition, so I do what I do.
"I was desperate. I can’t even put it into words how I felt. I took it badly, I have to say.
"I went down to seven stone and I’m 5ft8. One day my daughter sat on the edge of the sofa.
"She was crying and I said ‘what’s wrong?’ And she said ‘I think you’re going to die. Look at you’.
"And that was a trigger for me to pull myself together, which I did."
She also joked to John: "When he first left, it was tough. But actually he did me a big, big favour when it comes to the phone sex.
"Because I spent 25 years faking it with him, I’m very good on the phone."
John, who has been single since he got divorced "decades" ago, said he was looking for someone to "complete the picture" of his life.
He added: "I’m missing somebody like you."
However, his chuckles in reaction to Sherry's job did not go down well.
Speaking on the phone in the toilets, Sherry said: "He’s disrespectful and arrogant."
Ironically, as she spoke, John was outside telling waiter Sam Conrad : "Man, she’s a dominatrix. I think she’s good to go, baby.
Unsurprisingly, Sherry wasn't keen on the idea of a second date. She told John: "I just felt you were a little bit disrespectful if I’m honest.
"Like when I was explaining about my work and you laughed about it. And I just didn’t think it was appropriate."
The rejection came as a shock to optimistic John, who had previously told the interviewer: "Yes, I would like to see Sherry again.
"She can take me to the cellar and tie me up."
