Witty, emotional, painful, seductive and provocative
This drama is unlike Sex and the City, where the women have a few drinks and share their sexual encounters with each other. Its much more personal and people can relate to it. Its much more engaging and emotional on a new level than other dramas focusing on women and their lives like "Sex and the City, Lipstick Jungle...." Dr. Katie Roden, is a psychologist with a dark secret, she seems much more depressed and guilt ridden than the rest of her 3 friends. She is dealing with the death of her former lover who was her patient while tackling his son's advances on her. Her sombre clothes and empty and cold house convey her inside emotions very well. Trudi Malloy, a widow is battling issues with "letting go" of her dead husband from 9/11. And when a handsome stranger, Richard shows an interest in her she is suddenly forced to do a reality check by her friends who suggest that she gets back into dating business. The ridiculous and embarrassing courting scenes between Richard and Trudi are totally funny! It is interesting to note that Richard asks her out the day she gets a millions from the 9/11 board for her husband's death..lets see what his intentions are Siobhan Dillon, a lawyer is fed up of her husband's love making tactics which only involve "baby making" (as they are having trouble conceiving) and she quickly falls for her colleague who offer his "services" a little too willingly to her and she does not hesitate for long!It will interesting to see whether she will continue her affair or patch up with her husband (played by Raza Jeffrey) Jessica, a real estate business woman is single and is straight, until she organizes a lesbian wedding and has an affair with one of them. Her character is shown as a bold and provocative woman who before her lesbian encounter is having sex with a "married man", her colleague. Lets see where her character venture to.... The beauty of this drama is that we are shown 4 totally different women with different scenarios, whose ambitions and inhibitions are shown. Its also a good thing that the drama reveals the fact that sometimes friends lie to each other to be "safe"!

Mistresses is one of those shows that you can't help but love. It's a little bit soap, a little bit romance, and a little bit comedy. It follows four friends: Katie (Sarah Parish), Trudi (Sharon Small), Jessica (Shelley Conn), and Siobhan (Orla Brady) as they each in their own way, become a mistress -- albeit not always intentionally. Through it all, they remain the best of friends and are there for each other no matter what. What I love most about this DVD is that it includes both the first and second series of show, so you won't have to go out and buy them separately. All in all, I was very pleased with the Misresses Volume 1 DVD.
I think that the British people who produced and distributed the series "Mistresses, Vol.1" are way to sophisticated for the people in the States who has bowed down to the spit drooling mob, that follows "Sex in The City". The "Mistresses,Vol.1" has an engaging plot. The subject of sex and relationships was handled with intelligence.I did not experience dead spots in the series,the pace is very developed. I wish there is a Mistresses, Vol.2 on region 1 DVD. Your girl will love it. She can see your UNDERSTAND-ABLE side!
This is a highly entertaining British soap opera of sorts. Reminds me of the Amercian Sex and the City series. Story lines are fresh and decidely British in nature. If you enjoyed Desperate Housewives or Sex in the City I think you too will enjoy these grown up soap operas. I would not allow anyone under 14 years of age to watch as there is some slight nudity and very adult topics. I rate this a 5 star production. I look forward to the new seasons.
Loved the series; it transported me to a world that I can only occupy in my dreams and TV! The women are diverse,their problems and issues are current. While the situations are contrived and we all know the outcome, it is a terrific ride that I didn't want to end. I was disappointed that the show didn't continue past the first 3 seasons
I love this series. The characters are smart and funny. The first series plot is intriguing and they make use of the six episodes.

It's a show I never expected to like but fell in love with it and all the characters. I wish it had lasted longer than 3 seasons.

I have heard comparisons between Sex & The City and Mistresses and I for one see they have nothing in common apart from the fact that both series have 4 main female leads.All 4 actresses in this are outstanding.Sarah Parish in particular plays 'vunerable'for a change rather than the fiesty man eater roles we are used to seeing her in.Shelly Conn,Orla Brady & Sharon Small are also great,loved Sharon Small in Glasgow Kiss but I have never come across the other 2 in anything else but I am now a firm fan. What a fab series this is.I truly cared about each of these women and every episode left me wanting more. I watched the entire series in 2 afternoons and I will certainly be getting Series 2 quick smart.If you like your dramas with more than a dash of laughter and the odd tear or two this is deffo for you.

Excellent and absorbing
I bought this as a gift for my 29 year old daughter and am sure she will love it too. I have only watched Series 2 on television but enjoyed it so much I bought her the Series 1 and 2, and will watch Series 1 when she has finished. I don't watch soaps and apart from Lost, House and Law and Order I rarely follow TV series. Mistresses (I can only speak for Series 2) was totally absorbing. I liked the four women enormously and cared what happened to them. All the characters were believable and were brilliantly cast. As one episode ended I was impatient for the next. Don't let the title put you off - as it nearly did me!

The Good Life - from the Other Side
Brilliant. This is no Soap - its true to life: its saucy without being prurient: its dramatic and exciting without recourse to violence or bad language. The girls are gorgeous and most of the men pretty tasty too [my lady says]. The acting is superb, the script bang up-to-date, the characters are delightful [except the bad guys], the direction is a breath of fresh air. After watching an episode you are left with much to ponder and events to mull over: if you are in a shaky relationship, you might prefer to watch it alone!

Stylish. Elegant. How come almost none of the men portrayed are virtuous AND strong? - the lawyer's stalker, her wimpy husband and her co-worker who has a fling with her whom he knows is married. The event planner's flaky boss, unfaithful husband? The doctor's lover (her married patient married), his son who virtually stalks her, her new (and ex) married boss who has another fling with her, David (who's married to Trudy) has a fling with her. Only her surgeon boyfriend (the "Porter") plays with a straight bat. Trudy's investor has a fling with her as does her ckae shop boss who knows she's dating David. Could have done with more gender balance.
