Missing Boy in South Australia: Police Launch Massive Search

ADELAIDE, SOUTH AUSTRALIA — A missing-boy investigation has escalated into a large-scale search across coastal and rural areas of the state, with police deploying hundreds of officers, as well as air support, search dogs, and volunteers. The boy, 12-year-old Luke Carter, was last seen Friday evening near the coastal town of Victor Harbor, about 80 kilometers south of Adelaide, wearing a red hoodie, dark shorts, and white sneakers.

Police say the search zone covers beaches, scrubland, and creek beds stretching along the coast and inland countryside. An airborne helicopter and drone teams are scanning trails and farm property, while ground teams, including dog units, comb the area on foot and in utility vehicles. Local volunteers and surf lifesaving crews have joined the operation, contributing both manpower and equipment to the extensive effort.

Inspector Maria Chen, leading the operation, said officers are treating the case as high priority and are following up every lead. 'We are pooling all available resources to locate Luke as quickly as possible, and we’re asking people in the area to check sheds, yards, and outbuildings for anything that might help,' she said.

The weather has been unsettled, with light rain in some parts and gusty winds along the coast, complicating aerial and ground searches but not damping the determination of search teams. Police have urged residents with any information, no matter how small, to contact Crime Stoppers or their local station. The investigation remains active, and authorities emphasize that the boy’s safety is the focus of every effort, as the search continues across multiple shires.
