Miskolc buying blow
Last activity 13 September by helenmitchell Just a question, is k before tax a favourable salary for an expat teacher in Miskolc, Hungary? Also, is a k rent including utilities a good renting price for a 40m2 flat? Hopefully, I can get an answer from the group. Thank you. It's not a great amount of money but it's probably just about enough to live on. You wouldn't be buying that Ferrari you always wanted. Prices seem to be escalating here. The apartment, probably is OK cost wise depending. Check if utilities include water, sewage, electricity and gas. Also make sure it includes common costs of the building - covering cleaning, maintenance and so on. These can be high. If you want good money for teaching English, go to Korea. Thank you so much for your reply. Hopefully, they can give me an increase or they make the as net. Glad the k rent including utilities is a good price. Thank you for the reminder, I will ask them about the inclusion. Normally, how much is the cost of utilities per month specially during winter for a 40m2 flat? Thanks again. Teachers are not paid that well and I doubt they would increase it. It is known that in some cases they take on a 2nd job. You can probably get a place cheaper than that. Depends how luxurious it is. But 40m2 is not very big, perhaps one or two rooms plus bathroom and small kitchen. Maybe they should send you some photos. If you lose your job, you'd almost certainly lose your home if they provide it. It's hard to say how much the utilities are but 40K HUF would probably do it I live in a house with my family and we pay a lot for everything. But like I said, make sure the common costs are included. These could be 20K HUF a month. As a renter, the proportion for maintenance and the building insurance should be on the owner. Cleaning of the common areas is a different thing. Internet you can get via 4G or Telekom for a reasonable price. Would that be included? It's a utility of a sort. If you had a family with you, it'd be a struggle. Don't forget the healthcare and social costs you and they have to pay. You'd need the infamous TAJ-card to get government healthcare. As an employee, you should get that automatically but best to check. I've only been in Miskolc once, but found it the least interesting of Hungarian cities. There's a long traditional shopping street but so much of the rest seems to reflect the worst of socialist redevelopment. I say this because great cities with character are so common in Hungary. Miskolc seems to be an outlier. It would be great if they can really shoulder the rent. I might negotiate the benefits to them. Thanks again dear expats! If you are India, instead of coming here, why not try further East in Korea or Japan. My nephew was there for 2 years and was earning rather good money. One of my daughters spent 2 years in the North of Japan and had a good time. From their reports, of Korea and Japan, you can get reasonable paying jobs but there are many side English teaching jobs privately which pay nice money directly. But in any case, if you do come to Hungary, please post here to let us know how you get on. It would be lovely to have a fully furnished and equipped flat. In the contract, it says rent and common cost. Hence, the HeadMaster told me that no need to pay for monthly bills as all are included in the k. Glad that I will just live alone and I think the salary is still livable. I eat clean so I seldom devour on meat so I might spend a little for food. So, I would love to try exploring Europe this time. Sad reality. Thank you for the heads up. Seems not as vibrant as Budapest and other cities but might be a good place to start. Yes, it's lower paid over here. But for a year and for the adventure, it could be tolerable. As I said, Korea is about the same as Japan but I believe it's relatively cheap there. BTW, there are international schools in Budapest. Don't know about their hiring plans. Whatever you do, good luck!
