The former 'The O.C.' actress finds it easier to relax during lesbian scenes for her film and TV shows because there is none of the tension that can build up when she has to get romantic on camera with members of the opposite sex.
Mischa, 23, said of her lesbian roles: "I don't know why that keeps coming up. It doesn't annoy me that much. It's so much easier to kiss another girl. You're so much more relaxed filming and you can have a laugh. It can get a bit tense with a guy."
Mischa Barton's love scenes with other girls include in 'The O.C.', where her character, Marissa Cooper, had a relationship with Alex Kelly, played by Olivia Wilde and in TV series 'Once and Again', where she was pictured kissing Evan Rachel Wood.
She also famously starred in 2008 film 'You and I', about two teenage girls, and American and a Russian, how fall in love after meeting at a concert by faux lesbian Russian girl band t.A.T.u and subsequently get caught up in an underworld of drugs and murder.
The 'Beautiful Life' star recently revealed she had never had her heart broken.
She said: "I've never been dumped. One tried to make it quite mutual though so that felt as close to dumping as I've got. I kind of lost it and was like, 'You are not turning this on me. I dumped you first.'

"I felt like my heart was broken at the end of a couple of relationships but it wasn't really."

When Misha Friedman started the photographic project that led to his newly-published book, Lyudmila and Natasha—Russian Lives , life was different for Russia’s LGBT community. That’s because he started shooting Natasha and her partner Lyudmila in Saint Petersburg in 2011, two years before Vladimir Putin signed article 6.21, the infamous “anti-gay propaganda” law . Banning the promotion of “non-traditional relationships,” the law created, through its vague wording, a grey area in which displays of affection or public statement related to same-sex relationships could lead to fines . In specific cases, banned behavior could even be penalized with jail time. Although homosexuality has been legal in post-Soviet Russia since 1993, article 6.21 had an immediate chilling effect on gay rights, creating an atmosphere of homophobia and even open violence against the LGBT community .
It was against this backdrop that Friedman began shooting his subjects. “This was a project about a relationship,” he explains, noting that his initial intent was not to portray a specifically gay relationship. But the anti-propoganda law was impossible to ignore, and as the project progressed, the sexual orientation of the couple became more relevant. As the two women witnessed friends being victim of discrimination, losing jobs, and feeling threatened, it became clear that whether they liked it or not, life for Natasha and Lyudmila had become intertwined with state politics.
Friedman’s book—which contains portraits taken from 2012 to 2014—is a meditation on the lives of these two women as they live, love, break up, and get back together. Certainly, there is also always the looming presence of a society that rejects them.
Yet at the same time, there is a comforting atmosphere of intimacy as they go about their daily lives. Under the unobtrusive eye of Friedman’s camera, the women handle the mundane details of life as a couple, dealing with Lyudmila’s children (from an earlier marriage with a Lebanese man), working through strains in their romantic relationship and ultimately reconciling. ”The story happened there,” says Friendman, “but it would be the same here [in the US].”
The photographer says the project evolved organically: he would spend a few days or a week at a time with the women in between other projects, slowly developing his relationship with them—something visible in the progressively more intimate pictures he takes. This unhurried process also affects the medium: Friedman’s pictures vary in format and color depending on what camera he used in the moment. Although arbitrary, this gives the viewer a sense of the power specific formats hold when framing a story.
The book, explains Friedman, does not represent the end of the project, which he sees as ongoing. ”They are part of my life,” he says of Natasha and Lyudmila, “to me this is just a start. It’s a good start.” The pictures below are indicative of this larger project: while some have been featured in the book, others are outtakes, and a few were even shot after the book went to print.

6 Reasons We'll Never Forget Mischa Barton's Lesbian Romance On The OC
You may publicly shame people all you want (but for reals don't do that), but deep down you know you loved The OC , and cherished this iconic '00s show. Even if the show was rather campy, it covered a lot of major issues, like substance abuse, hard family situations, and (gasp!) sexuality.
What caught our attention when going back through all the Cooper and Cohen shenanigans on this beloved Laguna beach show? Marissa Cooper’s relationship with Alex Kelly, of course.
1. For many in our generation, this was the first time we saw a major plotline that featured two main female characters dating.
We’ll obviously never forget Ross’ ex Carol leaving him for Susan, but Marissa + Alex were definitely our first real exposure to girls dating on primetime TV.
2. Their relationship was between two femme women.
Despite not being the most average depiction of what lesbian couples look like, we’re happy the show depicted the fact that femme women date other femme women too.
Bisexuality is also another major point the show made on primetime television, especially since she chose Marissa over Seth, which ended up depicting another very real situation that often occurs with bisexual women—people making stupid comments
4. Their relationship depicted (a Hollywood version of) what sexual experimentation is supposed to be like—safe and consenting.
There’s never any feelings of predator/prey happening here, and we really appreciate that.
5. How they acted in front of Coop’s mom Julie, accurately depicted how many of us acted when we were baby gays in the closet, fucking around with our “friends” while they were over at our houses in high school.
6. It may not have lasted, but it fully captured the intensity and reality of what two women dating and living together is actually like.
Like dealing with unapproving parents. Shit got so real.
