Sex has ruined parts of my life, says Weeks in documentary.
WASHINGTON, DC: Miriam Weeks, the Duke University sophomore, who made headlines globally for doing porn to fund her college education, and goes by the stage name of Belle Knox, has revealed in a documentary that she was raped, and that sex has ruined parts of her life.
The new documentary series from Condé Nast Entertainment, “Becoming Belle Knox,” which is a set of five miniature parts on Weeks’ experience in the porn industry, depicts the Indian American teenager – her mother is of Indian origin – as vulnerable, who is still coming to grips with her experience in the industry, and the negative fallout with family.
In the documentary, Weeks has no qualms in admitting that she is a willing worker in the industry, and likes what she does, because it pays her bills, and also because she likes sex, but also reveals tearfully that she was raped – without giving details of when it happened, except that the man who committed the crime may not even recognize her now. She also adds that the incident of rape was not the reason that she decided to join the porn industry.
Weeks says, “I was not promiscuous” in high school, and in fact none of the boys she liked then gave her any attention.
“I did love sex, and had a nice body,” says Weeks, who also shows off gifts her mother regularly sends her, and says that her mother has always supported her. She also breaks down revealing that many family members don’t speak to her now; she is regularly a victim of cyberbullying on campus, and gets plenty of hate mail.
When she was in the 8 th grade in school, once she cut her thigh and carved the word ‘fat’ on her thigh, because she felt that she had gained some extra weight.
“Part of my life has been ruined because of sex, my family doesn’t talk to me,” says Weeks. “The industry has a way to make me bitter and cynical, to be street smart and not to trust people. I am looking always for people who will traffic me. I think my experiences have aged me. I don’t have the mind of an 18-year-old. I kind of have the mind and the emotional baggage of somebody much, much older than me,” adds Weeks, who pays $4300 every month in college tuition.
“Life is not sprinkles and cupcakes, life is about taking adult decisions,” she says about the trauma she underwent when she realized that she had to pay such a huge amount of tuition and didn’t have the funds for it. The first time she did a porn scene, she got $1200 for it, she says.
She says that Belle Knox is Miriam’s sexual side, but they are the same, an alter ego.
“Miriam is when I got to school, Belle is when I take breaks,” she says. “I can detach emotions from sex now. I used to earlier hook up everybody whom I had sex.”
“I miss my dad and mom every day. I am home sick. My parents gave me a good work ethic. My father traveled everywhere to make money,” she says of her staying prowess in the industry, despite all the negative attention she has received.
Miriam, who grew up Catholic, also appraises her work critically.
”People are probably going to get mad at me and say that I’m being exploited, but porn is like any other job,” Weeks says. “It’s labor, and I think that liking it is irrelevant.”
