What are you doing for exhaust? Got something sucking out all the hot air?
I've got mine in a large warehouse like this. Not nearly this many, but even with 5,000sqft and 25' ceilings, it gets very toasty even in winter.
36,000+ sq ft to spread the heat out. Natural air in, force air out. About a 20 degree difference from outside to inside. So if its 65 out, I'm at 85 inside (and only in the area in front of the rigs, the rest of the space is 75 or less.) Worse case scenario, just pay $$ and turn on the air chillers and it gets cold fast.
Hey thanks for the detailed responses to questions so far, they are very enlightening. I have a total of 45 GPUs in several rigs in my home, at what point do you recommend people look at an industrial location? I've already had an electrical team out once to run dedicated 20-amp circuits to multiple duplex outlets but I'm in the US and hamstrung by 120v standard power. We are moving to a condo in the Fall and plan on renting out the house, so I didn't want to have 30-amp runs that most people wouldn't be able to use because of the different plugs.
I was a stubborn holder of Bitcoin for a lot of years (thank God) so I have access to funds and want to expand. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Ps - I live in Utah where power is pretty cheap but from 6 March to 9 April I used 5,311 kwh and with fees and taxes it comes out to $652.63 ($0.12288/kwh). Pricey when I'm holding the coins...
If you plan on expanding, then a commercial space would be ideal. Make sure the electrical at the location is zoned for the correct rate, otherwise it will kill your wallet. Some ideal spot maybe old laundromats that closed down (hey, all those clothes dryers need power) so some of the infrastructure is in place. As mentioned in some of my answers above, when you grow your farm, equipment other than the rigs are pricey. The Geist digital display pdu can run $2k each. You can certainly try eBay for fraction of the cost.
I'm at $0.08 using 208v. When 480v comes online, it will be $0.05 to 0.06.
PS: I'm also in the US. Electricians can pull 240v for you, think your cloth dryer or oven. You just may need to upgrade your fuse panels to a 400amp version, then have them put in 50amp breakers. Each 50amp fed to a pdu should support about 10 rigs. Mine at 208v are drawing 5.6amp for a 8gpu rig (as shown on the digital display on the pdu) At 240v,it should be about 5.0amp. Figure in power loss as well.
I can tell from the I/O backplate that the motherboard you are using is the 8-slot Colorful C.J1900A-BTC PLUS V20 , isn't it? How do you like them? Are they stable? How do they compare against the very similar Sunfa 6299-FA355 or Zrt ZRTK-21613 & ZRTD-101 (See specs from the list of motherboards I maintain at http://bitcoin.zorinaq.com/many_pcie/ )
Damn bro, good eye. It's is indeed a Colorful backplane. Haven't tried the Sunfa so can't compare. System set up is tight and efficient. Had a bad power supply failure and a motherboard failure but all can be easily replaced. Running this test for close to a month and it's a workhorse. The case do need a few tweaks in design but nothing major.
Windows 10 running with awesome miner. Works OK, hence still testing to see if improvements can be made. Overall, pretty good.
How to keep your stuff secure in the industrial location? Do you have any insurance against fire / water / theft? Nice stuff !
We have added many layers of physical security and are adding more. Magnetic locks on all doors, double gates, etc all while keeping exiting the building easy as per fire regulation. We have to keep everything up to code which adds to the cost of just random warehouse mining.
What are the temperatures of rigs/GPUs?
Input air temp currently at 80f. GPU are around 68c
Still in the testing phase but its doing well at around 237.2MH/s each rig. (x8 AMD RX570). Another rack elsewhere on site. 208v 3 phase commercial rate. Geist and IBM PDUs. Next phase is utilizing the 480v power available on site (which then drops to industrial rate). Cost for a transformer is spendy. Working to get to about 360 to 400 rigs when fully utilized depending on how much I can pull from the 480v.

480v is 3phase yes? Can't you just run 2 rigs on one phase, 2 on another and 2 on the 3rd phase?
These are custom built to specs. Looking to modify the next batch as GPU0 runs 5c more than all others card because of air flow design.
That looks damn fine. How you keeping it cool in there? Must get a pretty gnarly pocket of hot air with it that close to the wall.
