It happens eventually... you get good enough to group your arrows too close, and a WHACK! A vane is torn. Relatively inexpensive fletching jigs are available, and vanes are fairly cheap, but the first step to repair is removing the old vane. This tool does it fast, and pretty well. Because the curved blade won't likely match the arc of the arrow shaft exactly, there is a small single point of contact, so you have to make a few passes to get as much of the old vane and glue off as possible. The blade is reversible, so if/when one side gets dull, you can rotate it around to the fresh side. I've not see replacement blades for it, but it should last long enough to get great value from its relatively inexpensive price.

Did not remove fletching (Easton XPV on Cabela's Carbon Hunter) in "one easy stroke". It mashed (can't say it cut at all) vane off about 1/16" at a time; not easy at all pressing very hard with arrow on flat, solid surface. It took at least 5 minutes to remove a single vane.
