Minecraft's Latest Snapshot Updates Chat Reports for a Safe and Non-violent Building

Minecraft is a game that should be shared with friends. Sometimes you'll be working together to make something awesome or else you'll be using mods to recreate Eldenring and at other times, you'll be exploring online servers to discover what the internet offers. Sometimes, things can get messy when you play online with strangers. That's what the latest Minecraft snapshot is designed to tackle.

Minecraft snapshot 22W24A is out today, and it's progressing towards 1.19.1 by introducing several bug fixes as well as two new features. The main one here is chat reporting that lets you report players who send "abusive messages" in chat. The blog says that "any reports made during testing times are not considered to be valid," but that it is important to recognize that toxic players are a major part of any online game. This could be an important step.

Chat reporting is accessible through the social interactions section, and you'll have to report each chat's individual messages, and select an appropriate category for them too. Presumably, this is to protect the system from being abused, as you cannot simply create a report that is generically about the player. You need to specify what they have done, and the blog states that the report will be reviewed by a moderator. It's impossible to know what constitutes an authentic and actionable report but it's worth knowing all about it.

In addition, the other big change is that the fantastic Minecraft allay can now be duplicated. It is possible to duplicate it by giving them an amethyst-based shard, but duplication has a 2.5-minute cooling time. This should take away any worries about how many mobs of allay are out there. Plus there's always more of a cute thing, right?
