Minecraft Reaches 54 million Sold, Console Editions Pass PC


The popular blocky sandbox game Minecraft is close to hitting 54 million copies sold across all platforms, says Mojang's Patrick Geuder, who also announced on Twitter that the console (Xbox 360 and PS3) versions of the game have surpassed sales of the PC and Mac versions. The game will be available on Xbox One, PS4 or Vita in August. Minecraft Servers The Vita version of the game is cross-buy compatible and is free for users who own the PS3 version. Xbox One and PS4 owners that have the game on Xbox 360 or PS3 will be able to download newer versions for $5.

Players' first moments with Minecraft were in May 2009, when the alpha version of Minecraft was released, two years prior to its official release in November of 2011. Mojang and Markus "Notch", Persson, the creator of Minecraft have reached numerous milestones in sales. Recently, Mojang reported that 15 million copies had been sold of the PC version. The Xbox 360 version sold 12 million copies, while the Pocket Edition for iOS or Android reached 21 million. [Image: Mojang]
