'Minecraft' October Updates are a Big Deal for Tweakers and VR


Minecraft is nearing updates that could seriously alter how you play if you like to mess with the game's mechanics... or simply take a trip into a virtual world. An upgrade arriving October 18th for Minecraft's Windows 10, Pocket and Gear VR editions will introduce Add-Ons that let you modify how characters and objects behave by altering text files. Do you want giant Creepers or chickens that can trigger massive explosions? It's now a simple task. VR players have better controller support. The Bluetooth-enabled Xbox One gamepad, similar to the one that comes with the Xbox One S, can be used with Windows 10 and Gear VR editions. Oculus Rift users can also utilize Oculus Touch hand controls. If Minecraft in VR is still a conventional PC or mobile game for the moment however, it should become a more distinctive experience following the update.

The new version also adds boss battles for the Windows 10, Pocket and Gear VR versions.

Console users won't have to wait until the 18th to see something new, however. Mojang and Microsoft are releasing the Chinese Mythology Mash-Up. This will introduce characters and a setting inspired by China's culture. You'll also see banners and more natural biomes, including Igloos and polar bears in the arctic regions. The update will be available for Xbox and Wii U gamers on October 4th, and PlayStation players on October 5th.
