Minecraft 1.18 Release Date: What's Coming with Caves And Cliffs Part 2?
What's coming in Minecraft 1.18 and when will it be released? Together, 1.17 and 1.18 make the massive Caves and Cliffs update which will forever alter the world of Minecraft with huge numbers of new blocks, fascinating new resources, and stunning world generation changes that we'll discuss below.
Here's what to expect with Caves and Cliffs Part 2 as well as the latest news on the Minecraft 1.18 release date.
Minecraft 1.18 will be released on November 30th for both Java and Bedrock editions, as announced on Minecraft.net. This update is part 2 of the Caves and Cliffs update. 1.17 was originally scheduled to be released as a whole package. Mojang decided to break Caves and Cliffs into two major updates to allow them to spend more time working on the huge changes these releases will bring Minecraft.
And I do mean monumental. Caves and Cliffs Part 1 introduced more than 90 new types of blocks, new creatures like Glow Squids, Goats and Axolotls, and new tools like Lightning Rods and Spyglasses. Caves and Cliffs part 2 will fundamentally change terrain generation in Minecraft and increase the depths of levels of the world with all kinds of new resources and bizarre items. Let's look at the Minecraft 1.18 update features.
Terrain changes Exploring below Y=0
In Minecraft 1.18 the world generation feature is being overhauled and for the first time you'll be able to dig beneath the Y-Level of 0.
The new depth is -64, and below Y=0 you'll enter the so-called "Deepslate layer" in which stone-like blocks are transformed into deepslate ones. This is also true for veins of ore where you'll find copper gold, iron redstone, and the like in deepslate veins if you're below the value of Y=0.
You'll find all sorts of intriguing cave structures in 1.18 thanks to the new underground terrain generation changes. The Caves and Cliffs changes were to include the all-new Deep Dark biome, but this biome, along with its perilous denizen, the Warden has been delayed because of Minecraft 1.19 The Wild Update.

Mountains that tower over you
Mountains in Minecraft 1.18 are being revamped and are now being created in a new way. Instead of having only one or two "extreme hills", or "mountain" biomes There are now five sub-biomes that comprise the different layers in each mountain.
- Mountain Meadow (Y=100-140): home to flowers and sweet berry bush The Mountain Grove (Y=110-140): snowy area, home to rabbits as well as polar bears. - Snowy Slopes (Y=140-170) They are snowy and icy where goats can be found. Lofty Peaks (Y=170+) Peaks of snow and stone and ice. - Snow Capped Peaks (Y=170+): same as Lofty Peaks but cold enough to allow Packed Ice as well.
If you're watching the Y-Levels, you'll notice that 1.18 is increasing the maximum heights of mountains. They were capped at 140 Y before, but they can now reach Y=255. This is an excellent option for towers and castles on tops of mountains.
However it is not likely that all mountains will be as tall as this. Only the highest mountains will have the new Lofty Peaks or Snow Capped Peaks biomes. Still, these terrain changes are bound to bring a new sense of exploration and discovery to the peaks of any 1.18 Minecraft world. Lush Cave and Dripstone Cave biomes
Caves and Cliffs Part 2 which dives back below the ground it brings two additional cave types: The Lush Cave and Dripstone Cave.
Lush Caves are caves with a temperate climate that are brimming with moss, vines and other exotic flora such as Glow Berries Azalea trees, Spore Blossoms and roots, and dripleaf: a new block type which can only support a person's weight for a short period before tipping over and let the person fall. It sounds like Lush Caves will be a great spot to practice parkour. I'm excited to see how these stunning caves look like with the most effective Minecraft shader packs.
Dripstone Caves are the home of the Dripstone blocks. These blocks are formed naturally by the process of dripping to make organic-looking stalagmites and stalagmites. In addition to this intriguing terrain feature, Dripstone Caves are functionally similar to other caves but will be highly sought after just because of the dripstone.
What about the other features that were promised in Caves and Cliffs Part 2?
Many of the notable additions originally planned to be launched in Minecraft 1.18 were delayed. They will now reach us in Minecraft 1.19 at the earliest. This will likely drop sometime around 2022. These delays include the new Deep Dark biome, Sculk Blocks, and the Warden.
It's been confirmed that at least three of the delayed features (namely Bundles and Archaeology) aren't included with the Wild Update. Wow Servers However, the Minecraft team is trying to assure us that none of them are going to be cancelled. It's a sad day for those who were the most enthusiastic about these changes. However, we will soon be able explore the vast changes to terrain that Minecraft 1.18 will bring.
