„Der Alltag ist geprägt von „menschlichen Automaten“.
Gelingt es stereotypes Handeln zu durchbrechen?“
Daily life is characterized by “human automats”. Can we break the stereotyped action?
The Script System was Milo Moiré’s first artivist performance. The idea for the concept is based on the script theory of cognitive psychology. This states that, in everyday life, we repeatedly carry out stereotypical sequences of actions without being aware of it. We are all familiar with the restaurant script, for example: sit down, order, eat, pay and leave. We also function like human automatons in the streetcar, blindly obeying our inner film script and not even noticing the world around us. It is precisely here that Moiré sought to disrupt or break through people’s scripts. Like everyone else on their way to work, she used public transportation to travel through Düsseldorf as the sun went up. There was one difference: Instead of clothes, she had written the pieces of clothing on her naked body in the form of words.
Always the same way to work, day after day…it is early in the morning…far too early for performance art! Always the same way to work, day after day…it is early in the morning…far too early for performance art! The semi-automatized operating according to an internalised script…enter, pass through, punch the ticket, sit down… Disturbed by a completely naked woman, right in the middle of it, dressed in words… What will happen? Astonishingly… not that much!
The own radical nakedness turns in this process into a protective shield against the stereotype and paradoxically makes the artist invisible. If one allows stunning defencelessness, a protective, almost private space arises – even on the tram.
Poem The Script System by Milo Moiré:
-The scripted Life- Following in the footsteps ohs others, who again found their path in others. Understanding the beginning and having the nerve to walk in to the end. Being human, oneself.

Milo Moiré’s performance The Script System Art Basel was held on the occasion of the world’s most important art fair. The artist took a critical look at the Art Basel’s number-loaded script. Dressed only in words, she set out from an artist’s studio in Basel to take the tram to the art fair. She had written words like “bra,” “shirt,” “panties,” and “jacket” on the parts of her body normally covered by these pieces of clothing. Moiré had already carried out “The Script System” in a Düsseldorf streetcar in 2013. This time her goal was to test how open the world’s most financially prominent art show is to experimentation. She was going to try and see if they would let her in.
The performance The Script System Art Basel is inspired by the script theory of cognitive psychology. Each of us knows these scripts (eg restaurant script), recurrent, stereotyped action sequences, after which we work every day. Especially early in the morning on the way to work, we work almost automatically, often without awareness of our environment. These everyday blindness I wanted to break through my performance. The Invisible (Invisible or become) make visible distribute such disorders as spores for a liberating thought. But why did Moiré choose the Art Basel? The performance artist has explained her intentions: “It’s time for the art market to shed at least some of its ever-present event character for the sake of genuine enthusiasm for experimentation. The rigid corset of numbers and hunger for power constricts art. This kind of willingness is precisely what I was testing at the Art Basel. It was an attempt to find an opening, specifically one for a vibrant exchange between artistic freedom and an institution for elite commerce. What is important to me is a fruitful dialogue between the societal and the commercial added value of art. Even something like the Art Basel needs the distinctive nature of art, namely, its playfulness and passionate authenticity. Without this quality, even the most renowned art fair is only selling illusions. The freedom characteristic of art has nothing to do with anything that can be calculated.”
That is why Milo Moiré went out in pursuit of a dialogue with the fair. Surrounded by members of the press and wearing only words, she was finally standing in the line in front of the doors leading into the Art Basel. A spontaneous moment — would they let her in? A spokesperson from the fair appeared and informed her that she would unfortunately not be allowed to enter. After all, the exhibitors had been selected by means of a lengthy process and had paid a large amount of money for their stands.
Not just the reactions of the passengers in the tram but also that of the Art Basel vividly demonstrate that deeply anchored scripts cannot be shaken off. Instead, the Art Basel reinforced its hermetic structures. The script theory was confirmed: Whether individuals or institutions, no one wants to have their automated normalcy called into question.

Milo Moiré was born in Switzerland and is of Spanish-Slovakian descent. The swiss artist lives and works in Dusseldorf , Germany.
As a child she preferred drawing to dolls. When she was seven years old, there was nothing else she wanted more for her birthday than a large box of crayons. Observing people, interpreting and capturing their moods, developed into an urge to express things in images and to provide them with a space between speech and perceived apprehension.
“Since I was able to think, I have always been interested in unusual things. I liked to watch. I was an introverted child. In every school there are the so-called misfits. These were exactly the children that fascinated me. For me they were like a rainbow, the ascent from the earthly to the heavenly dimension.”
The expressive works of Edvard Munch, Käthe Kollwitz, Maria Lassnig, Frida Kahlo, Francis Bacon and H.R. Giger inspired a young Milo to create her own paintings , in which man and his body are central themes. Consistently concentrating on man and his perception, the artist studied psychology with a focus on cognitive, neuro- and perceptual psychology at the University of Bern, in Switzerland. After graduating with a degree in psychology , she decided to fully implement the elements of the body and her knowledge of the psyche to her art.
Milo Moiré credits her fascination with performance art to a 2006 radio interview with Marina Abramovic. At the time, Moiré was on the Spanish island of Tenerife. She listened attentively to Abramovic’s words on the radio and was completely captivated by the artist’s courage and the artistic power of her body. She began to develop ideas for her own performances. Milo Moiré also began to grapple with the pornographic content in art, as in the works of performance artists Paul McCarthy, Carolee Schneemann, Valie Export and in the comics of author Alan Moore (“Lost Girls”).
Milo Moiré’s works are inspired by satirical images of sexuality, and are shaped by the feeling of otherness and the admiration for moral distance. Her art suddenly experienced international exposure following the online debut of her performance “The Script System” in 2013.
Milo Moiré and the renowned photographer Peter Palm have been an unconventional artist couple for over a decade. The world-famous art performances were created in close collaboration between the two. From 2005 to 2020, Peter Palm also produced a large series of eclectic and aesthetic nude photographs featuring Milo Moiré. The pictures exude a powerful confidence of the naked body – strong, striking, challenging and always seductive.
“The intimacy and candour in the pictures result from a symbiotic bond between the person in front of the camera and the person behind it, from the intimate dialogue between Peter and I “, Moiré explains.
A selection of fine art nude photographs by Milo Moiré/ Peter Palm, is now available in the online art gallery ( www.unlimitedmuse.com ). The galerie offers a selection of hand-signed, limited photo prints from Milo Moiré’s works.
