Calahonda - The Tropical Coast
Calahonda is a beautiful coastal town, located east of Carchuna and only 15 minutes away from Marbella centre and around 35 kilometres from Málaga. It is the largest residential area between Fuengirola and Marbella. It stands out as one of the most interesting tourist spots of the Tropical Coast of Granada, for its beautiful beaches and good conditions for diving. In fact, its name indicates that the water here is deeper and more transparent than in the whole coast. Thanks to its privileged location, which makes it a place of tourist attraction, its population multiplies in summer with the arrival of thousands of tourists. The majority of residents in the area are foreigners, mostly British and German.

The village of Calahonda emerges after the construction of Carchuna Castle, allowing the defense of this area of the Berber attacks. With this fact, the inhabitants feel protected, so that is created on the main town we know today.
Belonging to Marbella municipity, nearby to Calahonda is a charming marina called Cabopino, which is home for many yachts. The port offers a buzzing nightlife and it is surrounded by apartments, bars and restaurants that all overlook the little marina.

Alongside the marina one can find many fun activities such as banana boats, jet skis, inflatable rings, dolphin trips, para-gliding aso.
The area is perfect for shopping in small boutiques, because everything is in walking distance. Calahonda also offers a street market that takes place every Wednesday and Friday at the Calypso centre. El Zoco commercial centre is also worth a visit with its supermarkets, shops, restaurants and more. Avenida de España aka "The Strip" commonly also has a concentration of restaurants and bars. Health care needs are provided for by a chemist and three medical centres, offering 24 hour service. Furthermore, the state-funded Hospital Costa del Sol is well known as the Coast's state-of-the-art medical facility and is just minutes from Calahonda.
Sports are easily incorporated into a Calahonda lifestyle. For starters, there are a total of 10 golf courses within a 10 kilometre radius of this urbanisation . If you take a short walk from Cabopino across the motorway, you can find the Cabopino Golf course. In Calahonda there is also a mini, 9 hole golf course, La Siesta , and a well equipped Tennis Club, Club del Sol , featuring several tennis courts, squash & gym.
There is a nursery school in Calahonda and private primary and secondary schools are located nearby. One of the best known international schools on the coast, the English International School (EIC), is approximately 5 to 10 minutes drive from the urbanisation. Those interested in high quality Spanish schooling for their children can enrol girls in Las Chapas and boys in Ecos, private Catholic schools run by the Grupo Atendis, which are located just off the N-340 on the way to Marbella. State-funded schooling is available in La Cala de Mijas, where schools provide free bus service to students coming from Calahonda.
