Denver Nuggets Head Coach Mike Malone Signs Multi-Year Contract Extension

Denver, CO — April 9, 2025

The Denver Nuggets have secured the future of their franchise by signing head coach Michael 'Mike' Malone to a multi-year contract extension, the team announced today. The deal, reportedly worth upwards of $50 million over five years, ensures Malone will remain at the helm of the Nuggets through the 2029-30 season.

Malone, 54, has been instrumental in transforming the Nuggets into perennial championship contenders since taking over in 2015. Under his leadership, Denver captured its first NBA title in 2023, led by two-time MVP Nikola Jokić. The Nuggets have consistently been one of the top teams in the Western Conference, known for their unselfish play and elite offensive execution.

'Mike is the heart and soul of this organization,' said Nuggets General Manager Calvin Booth in a press conference. 'His ability to develop players, build a winning culture, and adapt to challenges is unmatched. We’re thrilled to have him leading us for years to come.'

Malone, known for his fiery sideline presence and player-first approach, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to continue coaching in Denver. 'This city, this team, and these fans mean everything to me,' Malone said. 'We’ve accomplished a lot, but the work isn’t done. Our goal is to bring more championships to Denver.'

The extension comes amid speculation that Malone could have been a top candidate for other coaching vacancies, including a potential high-profile offer from the New York Knicks. However, Malone’s commitment to the Nuggets never wavered.

With Malone locked in, Denver now turns its attention to the upcoming NBA Draft and free agency, where they aim to bolster their roster for another deep playoff run.
