Parent: My son transitioned from a highly-rated charter school to Hampden for first grade, and I have to say, I’m impressed. His teacher is attentive, intuitive, and communicative. In his first two weeks, she’s noted his problem subjects and found in-house programs that he’d benefit from. She also made sure to keep in touch with us as he got himself acclimated to the new school. My son, who had been in a school environment since 2, went from hating school in kindergarten to being excited to go every day.

Parent: BIA is a FULL language immersion school. A FULL language immersion school teaches your student their target language from kindergarten to the 8th grade and English is actually the 'foreign' language. English is not 'taught' until the 2nd grade. Parents must be proactive and interact with their children daily in English since their student will hear and learn the target language : Arabic, Mandarin, Russian, Spanish, and French throughout their school day. There is standardized testing, however, which is written in English. Most of the school's personnel and teachers are fluent in 2+ languages. BIA has an active NAL (National Academic League) team, Robotics team, and various language and language-specific groups and events. Student self-discipline has been an issue.

Senior: I have been going to Naf for 7 years and each year I learned something new. All my teachers worked hard to help me and they helped me with college applications and jobs and they taught me a great deal of work. The teachers are so nice and they respect you as long as you respect them. Naf have a lot of sports but sometimes it’s hard to get people to play or we don’t win every game but we stick together in our sports and support each other. The lunch is great sometimes but they don’t really give you what u want sometimes and sometimes it doesn’t look good but I judged based off how it looked till I actually tried it. We have a lot of big events but they can be taken away due to bad behavior of your class.

Alum: The school itself is a wonderful environment overall. Yes they have their ups and downs but who don’t? The sisterhood that girls have is amazing! Most of the teacher actually care about the students. Most of the teachers have a connection with each child. Yes there are things they could work on like communication, extra curricular activities for Upper school, allowing students to advocate for themselves, and more teacher involvement in high school.

and the teacher are tough on you cause they love you

Alum: It is not like public schools, it is a fairly small demographic. my graduating class was of 45 students, but just because it was small does not mean I was not prepared for college. the small class size has aided many of us to learn properly. Because it was a S.T.E.M school it has trained us in defrent useful fields. I learned all branches of engineering from civil to electric and though engeneering is not my Major i still retain the knowledge learned. Thanks to this school many of my classmates were certified in CIsco and are now working for major companies since graduating.

Junior: Connexions is a very small school. By there being so few amount of kids it is easier to learn and ask questions. Iv'e been going to this school since the 6th grade. The staff in the school really pushed me to my fullest potential, and they've taught me a lot of things about life. One of my favorite things about the school is the arts, taking an art is a requirement and they provide a nice selection. The school mostly focus its arts around African history . Not only do you learn about the history of Africa through art, but we are taught from Natives of Africa. I also love that the students are taught to be family, any problems or altercations that happen in or out of the school involving us students is widely talked about so that we understand the situation and what it means and how it could have further effects on us. After going to this school I have a better understanding of the outside world and how to love another person no matter their background or skin tone.

Middle School Student: I’m so sad I had to move. Gilman was the best part of my day! The students and teachers were very accepting, smart, fun, and could make a class or free time fun. After leaving Gilman I realized Gilman was an emotion, it was abstract in the sense it was an emotion. I’ve made lifelong friends there and can honestly say it is the best school ever!

Senior: My high school experience at Bishop Mcnamara, I see as a privledge . Being able to come up with the finances and tools to experience a private school education is one I see now as a great investment and amazing oppurtunity. Each day when I walk into Bishop Mcnamara I am greeted with a smile, a how are you doing or a pat on the back from my administration or a staff member. I am constantly challenged to think and push myself through my variety of AP, college prep and honors courses. The challenge and love doesn't stop in the classroom. Involved in every single dance art possible, my plate is definitely a full one. But I see that my school sees art as an importance to me, so they make it a priority to be of importance to them. I am thankful for Bishop Mcnamara and how it has shaped me as a individual, performer of the arts and as a student. I strongly believe the tools I have gained have prepared me for school after I leave this institution and then some!
