Welcome to The York School Flash, our weekly parent newsletter.
In this last Flash message for 2020-2021, I would like to express gratitude for your partnership during the past school year. A school year that is both regrettable and unforgettable. You were accepting of our new school protocols whether it was drop-off, pick up, wearing specific masks, adjusting to the online environment, and supporting the teachers and administration with your child. You were our eyes and ears when we could not discern what was going on at home.
Our students demonstrated flexibility during an incredibly challenging school year. The pandemic restrictions limited student interactions with their classmates, and teachers. We recognize there was a lot of loss for our students. Their adjustments to the changes shows how resilient they are. Moreover, their care for each other, their teachers and their studies gives us hope that these commitments contribute to a kind and inclusive school community.
Behind our students was a cheerleading squad composed of the teaching faculty who encouraged, supported, praised and sometimes cajoled them to participate in learning. Our teachers have been incredibly committed to not only student learning but also to their well-being. As well, our citizenship team has ensured that we had fun during the school year with the planning of so many virtual assemblies, themed weeks and events that remind us that there must be joy in learning and growing.
I am incredibly grateful to a team of professionals, supportive families and energetic students. I look forward to next year when we can resume some of our normal activities.
All Livestream broadcasts from this morning have been recorded and the link is shared below so you can watch them with extended family and friends at their leisure.

Summer Reading, Summer Camps, and Enrichment Resources
This summer, we encourage your child to be outside playing and being tweens as much as possible. There has been an abundance of screen time this year. There is no need to enrol your child into remedial work unless our Learning Strategist team recommended it. Our librarian, Gemma Larcina has collated some resources on the school’s CLP website, including a middle school reading challenge. Reading is always encouraged. Link to the Our Summer Reading Program. Link to the Continuity of Learning - summer enrichment site, and CIS Ontario - school summer programs.

June Reports, June Mailing and Next Year’s Class Placement/Timetable
The final June report will be available for download from YorkNet during the week of June 28. An email to you will be sent alerting you to its availability. Paper copies will not be mailed out this year. A June mailing will be sent that includes an Academic Achievement Certificate for Honor Roll (79.5% -84.4%), Principal’s List (84.5%-89.4%) and Head’s List (89.5% and above), Homeroom Recognition Certificates, Spirit pin (if applicable), and grade 8 pins (if applicable).
During the last week of August, an email will be sent to notify you that your child’s timetable is ready on YorkNet for download. This will include the class placement and homeroom teachers. We will not accept any requests or changes during the summer. Please order your child’s textbooks through the Canadian School Book Exchange. The CSBE portal has been added to YorkNet enabling you to order textbooks. As well, a list of stationery supplies will be made available on the school’s YorkNet site when the June Reports are posted. The lists are for students entering grade 7 and 8 in 2021 - 2022.
