Had these for over a year now, so I've had a good length of time to appreciate them. Initially they were not bad on bass, the midrange was good and the highs reasonably clear. They do suffer from a little distortion on bright piano, not sure if this is due to the amp or the tweeters used in this model, it seems to be a trait of the SOLO 8C and not just a defect of my unit. What changed was when I bought a sound blaster Z sound card for my PC for £50. It unleashed the potential of these speakers! The bass is clearer, stronger and better in every way, the same can be said for the mids and highs. They are fantastic for music, TV shows with DTS audio are amazing, not lacking in bass at all. Try out the intro to HBO's Rome or Game of Thrones at 45/60 volume and the clarity and volume of these speaker will amaze you considering the price, even if you include the sound card. Summary: 1.) Get a £30-50 sound card to get the best from these speakers 2.) You will not find a better set of speakers for the money 3.) Consider others if your primary listening is bright piano music
Measuring 21cm wide by 23cm deep and 46cm tall, these speakers are highly impressive. I had a pair of high quality desk top speakers for since the mid 90s but could not find anything better, worth buying. Until these. If you listen to music on your PC often these are outstanding and a pleasure to listen to. Rich, powerful sound. The default settings have a little too much base for my taste but this is easily adjusted.
Very good,solid sounding speakers and the build quality is top notch. Would buy more from microlab. You wont go wrong!
