Suhaib Webb is a contemporary American-Muslim educator, activist, and lecturer. His work bridges classical and contemporary Islamic thought, addressing issues of cultural, social and political relevance to Muslims in the West. After converting to Islam in 1992, Webb left his career in the music industry to pursue his passion in education. He earned a Bachelor’s in Education from the University of Central Oklahoma and received intensive private training in the Islamic Sciences under a renowned Muslim Scholar of Senegalese descent. Webb was hired as the Imam at the Islamic Society of Greater Oklahoma City, where he gave khutbas (sermons), taught religious classes, and provided counselling to families and young people; he also served as an Imam and resident scholar in communities across the U.S.
From 2004-2010, Suhaib Webb studied at the world’s preeminent Islamic institution of learning, Al-Azhar University, in the College of Shari`ah. During this time, after several years of studying the Arabic Language and the Islamic legal tradition, he also served as the head of the English Translation Department at Dar al-Ifta al-Misriyyah.
Outside of his studies at Al-Azhar, Suhaib Webb completed the memorization of the Quran in the city of Makkah, Saudi Arabia. He has been granted numerous traditional teaching licenses (ijazat), adhering to centuries-old Islamic scholarly practice of ensuring the highest standards of scholarship. Webb was named one of the 500 Most Influential Muslims in the World by the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Center in 2010.

Correct… JazakhAllahu Kheiran Br. Abdullah. If he was still alive it would be ridiculous to ask this question over and over again when our neighbors are not even Muslim. Seeing as he is dead now, knowing that he was Muslim would help us for dua purposes. 🙂

Actually this is an important issue for Muslims. His being Muslim will make Islam look more acceptable in the eyes of thousands of his fans. It is a great event that hits the Islamophobes hard. Islam needs good publicity.
Think of him as a brand. Now he is a Muslim brand. This is a good thing. Even if it helps one of his fans turn toward Islam, this would have been a great event. This fan might become the next Malcolm X and inspire millions to become Muslim.
We will find out on his funeral service. If he's a Muslim his family would most likely know and they will give him an Islamic burial
Personally i dont think he was a Muslim. If ever he was truly a Muslim, we would have known by facts, like a Muslim's priority would be to perform Hajj to purify his soul. And what about the concert that was planned for July ? Muslim ? Its a great responsibility !

There have been many posts on the web questioning whether or not Michael Jackson was actually Muslim (Most notably Saqib Saab, Ali Eteraz, Umar Lee, MR and probably many others).
Nonetheless, others have indeed confirmed that Michael Jackson had converted, including Yasir Qadhi in today’s Khutbah at the Berlin Masjid in Berlin, CT [Props to Haseeb Chowdhry!!!]
In the second part of his Khutbah, Shaykh Yasir began talking about an individual that has been a part of all of our lives, whether we want to admit it or not. No one in our generation can say that haven’t heard Michael Jackson’s music, or that they haven’t heard about him in the news. He was a man that had everything at his disposal, all the fame, the fortune, and the status. Everyone from Steve Jobs to kids living in the Maharastra slums knew of heard of Michael Jackson. What was so amazing, Shaikh Yasir said, was that everyone could tell that he was never truly happy and that he engaged in “eccentric activities,” demonstrating his insecurity and lack of ease with life in this world. Yet, according to Shaikh Yasir, there was evidence that Michael Jackson accepted Islam last year in LA. In fact, Shaikh Yasir said that Jermaine Jackson, who is the Shaikh’s friend and a Muslim for the past 10 years, confirmed with the Shaikh that Michael had indeed proclaimed the Shahada and was on his path towards learning about Islam.
Moreover, Imam Johari Abdul Malik has written the Jackson family is meeting with an imam to make the funeral arrangements for the janazah .
Any further speculation, without primary evidence is unnecessary. Moreover, it really hurts to see all the hateful comments against Michael Jackson on the web. He never molested any children, nor did he intentionally turn himself white (he had Vitiligo). Yes, he had his flaws, was quite eccentric, and perhaps mentally troubled, but that gives no body the right to speak ill of this man.

Are you saying he cant be Muslim because he hasnt made hajj yet? last i heard he supposedly became Muslim a couple months ago, and are you saying because he had a concerts lined for July he couldnt be Muslim? Its a great responsibility to be Muslim but not all of people who were born Muslims even know that.
MJ being Muslim is not the same as the theories we have had about other people, our theories of MJ being Muslim come from his brother who is Muslim. You dont have to believe he became but optimism and compassion for another human to be save on the day of judgement would be nice. This isnt just to you but to everyone who has had such a negative look on this topic after his death.

I, myslef know one of the prince of Libya (I don't want to disclose his name without his consent) & he himself told me that his friend and MJ's brother Mohammed Abdul-Aziz (a.k.a Jermaine Jackson) confirmed that Alhumdulillah MJ had recited the Kalima and convertied to Islam before his death.
The only correct answer is Allahu A’lam (Allah knows best). There are rumours stating that Michael converted, but some people say he died a non-Muslim. Lets hope that he died a muslim.

The New York Post reports today that "Michael Jackson last night became a member of the Nation of Islam ." This development takes place in the aftermath of Jackson's being arrested on Nov. 20 in connection with child-molestation charges and now being out on $3 million bail. Comments : (1) This fits a pattern of African-Americans turning to Islam when in trouble. (2) For someone so high profile to convert to Islam could increase the rate of conversions by blacks to Islam. (December 18, 2003)

Nov. 24, 2005 update : Michael Jackson was acquitted of child molestation charges on June 13, 2005, and appears not to have converted to the Nation of Islam, but there is more news about his connection to Islam. He moved to Bahrain in October, where his lawyer said he is "living permanently." Sheik Salman ibn Hamed Khalifa, the crown prince of Bahrain, has invited him to be his houseguest and he is living in a spare palace. It is noteworthy that Jermaine Jackson, the brother of Michael, had embraced Islam at the beginning of 1990s; he was one of former Jackson Five band and the solo singer. Jermaine had felt his brother Michael has great interest and study of Islamic books, the tolerance of Islam and his dealing with Arab and Muslim personalities since long years. The most prominent among those figures is Prince Al Waleed bin Talal and the Bahraini royal family.

Nov. 29, 2005 update : Internet sources of various stripes state that an English-Arabic nasheed that appears to date to 2002 , " Gives Thanks to Allah " was sung by Michael Jackson. Here are the lyrics:

Comments : (1) The singer's Arabic pronunciation is letter perfect. (2) Other sources say this was sung by Zain Bikha or even by Yusuf Islam (the former Cat Stevens). (3) If this in fact Michael Jackson, it is hard to imagine he is not a Muslim. (4) What are the chances that Michael Jackson recorded this song three years ago, and in a faultless Arabic accent, without anyone noticing? Pretty slim.
Jan. 16, 2006 update : Michael Jackson appears to be settling in in Bahrain . According to a press release issued by AAJ Holdings Ltd., owned by Bahraini businessman Ahmed Abu Bakr Janahi, the 47-year-old Jackson may be hired as a consultant to advise on setting up entertainment businesses. "Stagnant architectural structures need content in the form of entertainment to revive them and that's where Michael Jackson will play an integral role." AAJ has in the past mainly built large urban projects.

Jan. 29, 2007 update : " Jermaine Jackson wants Michael to convert to Islam " reads the Reuters headline, which quotes Michael Jackson's brother saying that "Michael, I feel, needs to become a Muslim because I think it's a great protection for him from all the things that he's been attacked with, which are false. There's a strength and protection there." Jermaine (aka Mohammed Abdul Aziz) added that he believed his brother had given conversion "serious thought" during long spells in Bahrain. "I was the reason why he had gone there [Bahrain] because I wanted him to get out of America and just go somewhere it's peaceful and quiet and people pray five times a day which is beautiful."

Mar. 24, 2009 update : Michael Jackson's financial troubles have prompted him to sell much of his memorabilia at an auction in Los Angeles in April. But now, report auctioneers Darren Julien and Martin Nolan in affidavits filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, a representative of Jackson's, James R. Weller, met with them on February 9, 2009, and made a veiled threat that the Nation of Islam would do them harm if they didn't desist from the sale. Swears Julien: "During the meeting, Weller told Martin and me that our lives would be in danger if we did not postpone the auction.
