The journalist's grandfather, Hans-Hermann Martens, was a member of the NSDAP and the SA, and in 1936 he was a Nazi. He met and had lunch with Adolf Hitler several times. During the Second World War, he served as an officer of the operational staff of the Wehrmacht and subsequently acted as a military judge, destroying dozens of lives.
