I travel frequently and have been to Bali before and was so looking forward to having a cocktail by the pool in my resort but not so sure anymore about that! Can anyone shed some light on this? Obviously most people that have their drinks spiked would be in seedy nightclubs, street bars and cafes etc.. Home made stupid concoctions! I just want to be able to sit by the pool and have a couple of cocktails.. If this gets any worse no one will be drinking anymore! I always look forward to having cocktails when in Bali but I choose very carefully where I have them. You should be OK drinking them by your pool in a resort or from a well known and busy restaurant. Another thing you can do is take your own spirits and just order the juice or the coctail in a virgin form and add your own alcohol. It is not methadone which is used to treat opiate addiction its methyl alcohol The risk in a resort is low. However on a serious note, drinks are not being spiked. This has been going on for years. However the ethyl alcohol content of the drink slows the metabolism of the methyl alcohol sufficiently that it does not cause significant problems from occurring, such as acidosis. If they were it would be pure ethyl alcohol, and for many people that is a fairly boring sort of a drink, and in concentrated from it is of course quite poisonous in other than small volumes. Alcoholic drink producers may even judiciously add some of the by-products like Fusel alcohols, and other compounds back in again to provide the desired product flavour and aroma. The temperature of the distillation process is monitored to ensure proper technique and the fusels and methyl alcohol are collected, both at the beginning and the end of a distillation flow. Sometimes this is bungled by inept back yard still operators, some are even ignorant and stupid enough to add these by-products back in, when the distillation process is meant to be engineered and managed in a manner that removes them from the final product. Heavy drinkers also commonly have a high methanol level in their blood plasma. It is often used as a diagnostic marker where high alcohol drinking intake is suspected. It is reasonable to speculate that this is why a lot of chronic alcoholics feel so unwell when they stop drinking, this is likely the effects of the accumulated methyl alcohol and fusel alcohols emerging, it gives them headaches and makes them feel unwell. So they drink some more ethyl alcohol drinks, and that goes away. Ethyl alcohol is provided by IV with sodium bicarbonate to treat victims of suspected methyl alcohol poisoning. The journalists who write up the stories generally appear to have no understanding of the clinical path of methanol poisoning, nor do they read the autopsy results or coroners reports , and if they do then they apparently do not understand them. Many of these deaths are from ethyl alcohol poisoning arising from the consumption of very high levels of ethyl alcohol. Some may also be ingesting recreational drugs but are not reporting this for fear of prosecution, or unaware of that consumption having accepted an unknown compound from another person. Their bodies are sent home and often examined by a pathologis in an autopsy setting. The media reports the patholologist finding high levels of of methonol, yet fail to provide the context that the body has been emballmed using formaldehyde and methyl alcohol methanol. Many of these victims are reported as consuming drinks, becoming rapidly unwell and then dying a few hours later. This is not consistent with the clinical path of methyl alcohol poisoning. Indeed for most people it is asymptomatic for an extended time. Following ingestion of methyl alcohol there is an asymptomatic period hours, and up to 90 hours if ethyl alcohol co-ingested while methyl alcohol is being metabolised into its toxic metabolite formic acid. This period is generally shorter with increasing dose and will be longer in those individuals who have co-ingested ethyl alcohol. So if you are drinking a range of alcoholic beverages this will slow down the onset significantly, or in lower doses it will nullify the effects as outlined earlier. What is of deep concern in this situation is the dreadful misinformation propagated and then rendered repetitiously by the by the media, especially in Australia. This may influence people to believe that the risks are arising form either methyl alcohol contamination or adulteration alone. This is borne out by many formal reports, including those arising form the Public health services in Western Australia who to their credit have investigated this phenomena extensively, as have some AU gov and US reports of a similar nature. If in Bali drink in moderation, consume sufficient salts, including potassium, and sodium. Drink raw unadulterated coconut water without alcohol or sweeteners, or consume re-hydration preparations. Take some folic acid supplements Vitamin B and drink plenty of non-alcoholic fluids. The Aspartame metabolises to Formaldehyde, with in turn metabolises into Formic acid. Так вот - никого более мирного и спокойного вы в жизни не видели. Человек сосредоточен на внутренних ощущениях, может спокойно залипать, но не более. Подготовленный человек. Неподготовленный будет метаться у себя в номере в собственных страхах видел, знаю о чем говорю. Это не легкий кайф, это работа над собой. Но я думаю, что это не правильный путь. Бесполезно что-то кому-то доказывать на столько скользкую тему, пусть каждый сам решает и отвечает за себя. Например, их в открытую продают во многих магазинах в Куте. А вот за все остальное - вплоть до смертной казни.
