Leonardo DiCaprio may have raised objections to Meryl Streep, 72, seemingly appear naked in Don't Look Up but viewers have been going wild for the scenes
Don't Look Up viewers have been loving scenes in which 72-year-old Hollywood legend Meryl Streep appeared to be naked despite protestations from co-star Leonardo DiCaprio.
Meryl is playing President Janie Orlean in the Netflix satire and she is seen without any clothes on in the final scenes of the film, which had originally brought objections from Leonardo, who argued that Meryl is "film royalty" and didn't need to do a scene like that.
As it turns out, a body double was used for the 'naked' Meryl by director Adam McKay, but this didn't stop viewers going crazy on Twitter , believing they were seen Meryl's real body.
The actress plays a Trump-esque politician with the story centring on scientists telling the public that a comet was heading towards Earth which would bring the world to an end - but without much luck in getting the message across.
Despite all this, it was Meryl's body which was on many people's minds after watching it.
One wrote on Twitter: "Meryl Streep was naked at the end of look up... Idk if that was real but I never thought I would see Meryl Streep that naked in my life..."
While another added: "Well I was not expecting to see meryl Streep but a*s naked when I turned on this film..."
A third wrote: "Never in my life did I expect to see Meryl Streep's bare naked a*s #DontLookUp... Bloody hell it’s the only bit I caught… Meryl Streep naked…. Quite the shock at teatime."
Director Adam revealed last week, in an interview with The Guardian , that Leonardo was not happy with the scene.
Adam said: "You know who had a problem with it? Leo. Leo just views Meryl as film royalty … although maybe royalty is not a compliment … but as such a special figure in the history of film."
Adam added: "He said something to me like: 'Do you really need to show that?' And I was like: 'It’s President Orlean; it’s not Meryl Streep.' But she didn’t even blink. She didn’t even bring it up. She is fearless."

Leonardo DiCaprio didn’t want Meryl Streep stripping naked in their new comedy, “Don’t Look Up.”
The film’s director, Adam McKay, made the declaration in a Sunday interview, saying DiCaprio, 47, believed Streep, 72, was too much of an icon to get nude on camera.
In the film, the three-time Oscar winner plays President Janie Orlean, who is seen naked from behind in one scene. Streep didn’t strip down for the saucy scene, instead employing a body double for the flesh-flashing moment.
But DiCaprio was said to still be opposed to the idea.
“She is fearless,” said McKay of Streep, while speaking with The Guardian .
“And yes, that is a body double. But you know who had a problem with it? Leo [DiCaprio]. Leo just views Meryl as film royalty … although maybe royalty is not a compliment … but as such a special figure in the history of film.”
McKay continued: “He didn’t like seeing her with the lower back tattoo, walking for a second naked. He said something to me like: ‘Do you really need to show that?’ And I was like: ‘It’s President Orlean; it’s not Meryl Streep.’ But she didn’t even blink. She didn’t even bring it up.”
DiCaprio has known Streep for decades, which perhaps explains his unease with the idea of the screen queen being stark naked on film.
Streep played DiCaprio’s mom in the 1996 drama “Marvin’s Room,” which also starred Diane Keaton and Robert De Niro.
“You get to work with the greatest living actor in the world. Everyone’s on their toes. Everyone’s prepared, and we’re just trying to keep up with her,” he explained.
Despite her long career in film, Streep has never done a full-frontal nude scene.
However, the 21-time Oscar nominee has steamed up screens in some older films. She went topless on a massage table in the racy 1982 psychological thriller, “Still of the Night,” although her assets were covered up.
The icon also stripped down for a skinny-dipping moment in 1994’s “The River Wild” and was seen shedding her clothes in a steamy sex scene alongside Clint Eastwood in “ The Bridges of Madison County” in 1995.

Don't Look Up viewers went wild at the sight of Meryl Streep, 72, in a 'nude' scene following the release of the Netflix satire movie last week.
The esteemed actress plays the role of President Janie Orlean, and the character is seen nude from behind in the final scene of the movie - yet many fans did not realise the septuagenarian was depicted by a body double.
Her widely-discussed 'nude' scene hit headlines prior to the movie's release after director Adam McKay, 53, revealed her co-star Leonardo DiCaprio , 47, took issue with the scene as he sees the actress as 'film royalty'.
Uh oh! Don't Look Up viewers went wild at the sight of Meryl Streep, 72, in a 'nude' scene following the release of the Netflix satire movie last week
Meryl is seen as a Trump-esque politician in the movie, which centres around scientists fruitlessly telling citizens the world is going to end due to a comet.
The final scene sees President Janie go without clothes, thus exposing a vast tattoo on her lower back, a tattoo placement often described in a derogatory sense as 'a tramp stamp'. Adam revealed the scene featured a body double.
Many viewers seemed to believe the scene was in fact showing Meryl's body.
Twitter users swarmed the microblogging site to pen: 'I didn’t need to see Meryl Streep naked tbh but the film is still fun...

Last week, it was revealed that Leonardo didn't agree with the scene, as Adam told The Guardian that he expressed to his disappointment at Meryl's nude scene.
Shedding light on the behind the scenes action, he said: 'You know who had a problem with it? Leo. Leo just views Meryl as film royalty … although maybe royalty is not a compliment … but as such a special figure in the history of film.'
He said he 'didn’t like seeing her with the back tattoo, walking for a second naked.

Leonardo told Access earlier this month that the star-studded cast, which also includes Jennifer Lawrence and Jonah Hill, was 'on their toes when Meryl walked in, as we should be' in reverence of her work.

All round icon Meryl Streep looked sensational as always as she attended a premiere in New York earlier this month.
The actress gave us a lesson in elegant partywear, as she opted for a black sequin disc dress by Marc Jacobs, a look taken from the American designer's Autumn/Winter 2021 collection.

Leonardo noted how he previously 'worked on a film' with Meryl, on the 1996 movie Marvin’s Room, in which she played the mother of his character.
In her vaunted film career, in which she's won three Oscars and scored 21 nominations, Meryl has been in nude scenes in 1994’s The River Wild and 1995’s The Bridges of Madison County.
Don't Look Up's ensemble cast also includes Timothée Chalamet, Tyler Perry, Cate Blanchett and Ron Perlman. The movie is in theaters now and will begin streaming on Netflix December 24.
