Outstanding, Quality Nursing has been a hallmark of Mercy Nursing since the Sisters of Mercy came to Baltimore in 1874. As the legacy lives on, today’s Mercy nurses are dedicated to continuing Mercy’s reputation of nursing excellence and compassionate quality care. Nurses at Mercy are leading, innovating and creating the future of nursing.
Mercy Nurses are proud to be recognized by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a Magnet organization. Magnet designation is the gold standard for nursing excellence and Mercy is now part of an exclusive group to earn a third designation!
Mercy nurses have many opportunities to keep their knowledge and skills up-to-date. Nurses are encouraged and support to advance on the clinical ladder, seek ongoing education, become nationally certified, participate in continuing education, and help others grow through teaching and mentoring.
At all levels of the organization, Mercy nurses have a voice to make decisions impacting their practice and work environment. Mercy is the first hospital in Maryland to achieve the coveted accreditation by the Forum for Shared Governance.
As dedicated leaders of innovative nursing practice, Mercy nurses have a strong spirit of inquiry and demonstrated research outcomes. Through conferences and peer reviewed journals, their best practices have been shared on local, national, and international levels.
In the spirit of the Sisters of Mercy, continual recognition and rewards programs highlight and showcase Mercy nurses. Mercy has been recognized as one of the Most Nurse Friendly Hospitals by TopRNtoBSN.com.
The Critical Care Nurses at Mercy are proud to be recognized by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses as the only Gold recipient in Maryland of the Beacon Award for Excellence.
This 8-week Nurse Extern program provides nursing students patient care experiences and an opportunity to perform nursing skills under the direct supervision of an experienced Registered Nurse. Externs become immersed in the collaborative, inter-professional healthcare environment, and meet regularly to discuss hot topics and practice skills. Opportunities are available in all nursing departments.
New graduate nurses participate in an evidence-based 12-month Nurse Residency Program designed to provide personalized support, professional mentorship and informative education. The program provides new graduate nurses individualized attention focusing on opportunities for enhanced clinical competency, leadership skills and continuous professional development.
Based on nursing experience, nurses are encouraged to advance on Mercy’s clinical ladders. Once promotion is achieved, nurses are celebrated with a financial incentive and a meaningful recognition ceremony. Mercy is unique in providing a highly specialized clinical ladder for Operating Rooms.
Mercy nurses have opportunities to embrace Jean Watson’s Caring Theory through a variety of self-care activities such as mindfulness and art therapy. The Caring Cart was instituted to provide on-the-spot restorative practices.
Exemplifying the mission of Mercy, strong structures and processes support Mercy nurses to be active partners within the community. Employees are dedicated to support the community and in-turn community members are strong supporters of Mercy Medical Center. Mercy nurses care for the community with compassion and dignity. Each nursing unit participates in community outreach events. Annual outreach programs are sponsored by the nursing division including food drives, community-need collections such as toiletries for the homeless and diapers for low-income families. Mercy nurses are supported in their mission work around the world and are encouraged to apply for the Mercy Nursing Mission Sponsorship to help offset financial costs of participating in medical missions.

We continue to follow the latest COVID-19 guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

There are many places in our community where you can go for COVID-19 tests, including retail pharmacies and local health departments.
Currently, Mercy Health only offers testing for patients who have a Mercy Health primary care provider (PCP). For more information please call 866-624-0366 .
If you don’t already have a Mercy Health PCP, please visit a retail pharmacy or contact your local health department for information on testing locations in your area.
Do not go to the Emergency Department (ED) if you are only seeking a COVID-19 test. If you are experiencing an emergency, call 911 or visit your closest emergency location.
We are so proud of our nursing team and your many accomplishments in 2018. The high-quality care you provide our patients and their families is exceptional, and we feel empowered to improve and implement evidence-based practices to make our care even better.
Every day, we contribute to fulfilling our mission, and we could not be more honored to work with an amazing team! The nurses at Mercy Health bring our values to life. You are true ambassadors of patient and family-centered care. Through changes in supplies, medications and technology, we have adapted and improved. But our focus is always the same: outstanding patient care.
The nurse residency program transitions you from student to professional nurse.
Enrollment periods for the nurse residency programs vary by clinical areas.
