Mercury Toastmasters, Berlin

Hey guys 👋🏻, guess what I am about to do...? 

I am about to enter the Technische Universitat, and be a guest of the oldest English-speaking Toastmasters Club in Berlin (Mercury Toasmasters Berlin). Today they will have a special contest meeting with refreshments and lots of fun 😏. At least that’s what they told me 🙄.

The topic of the meeting is: “Humorous speech and table topics club contest”. No idea 🤷🏻‍♂️ what is “table topics club contest”, but sounds intriguing... After the meeting, I hope to ask some questions about their relationship with an area and district officers.

It was a long night yesterday...

So now I know what is table topics contest. Contestants are known in advance, but the question is only one and hidden. The table topics master asks contestants to leave the auditorium, and then invites them one by one and asks them the same question. After hearing the question, a contestant keeps silence for a few seconds, and then gives his/her answer (1 to 2 minutes as usual). After that there is a minute for judges...

At the end, what I liked most, while judges were deciding, the toastmaster and the table topics master invited all contestants and asked some prepared in advance tailored questions to fill the time gap.

Management of the European clubs are done via “easySpeak” platform, the linkn is attached below.There they can request a speech, role, and etc.

Regarding area and district, it is quite complicated... There is also a division between those two mentioned above. Division and district officers are elected, but area officers are appointed. Every club has two votes...
