I've got a big vagina. Yep. That is a sentence I just wrote down that other people will read. It's true, too, however, it's not the world's largest vagina.
The vagina isn't one size fits all. Like the rest of our anatomy, while your vagina shares similarities with the rest of womankind, it's distinctly yours .
Vaginas are insanely powerful muscles.
In fact, the world's largest vagina on record successfully delivered a baby that weighed more than 23 pounds.
I want you to remember that number, and the next time the dude in your life is bellyaching over having a stuffy nose, whip that out for his consideration.
At her tallest, Anna was 7'11 1/2 inches. At her heaviest, she weighed 419 pounds.
It's hard enough being an average-sized woman without feeling like you're taking up too much space . I have literally apologized to someone for sitting on me while riding the subway.
Can you imagine what it was like for Anna? I cannot even.
Anna was lucky, she found love and professional success, both thanks to her size.
Her husband Martin was 7'9, and like a petulant little Tom Cruise, reportedly did not enjoy it when Anna wore heels.
The duo toured the country making money off their prodigious size.
To my knowledge, Anna never publicly displayed her vagina for appreciation by the masses and there are no recorded measurements of her genitals. When her 23-plus pound baby was born, he did not live more than a day.
The baby's head was measured at 19 inches in circumference. This means that Anna's vagina dilated up to 15 cm. The average vagina taps out at 10 cm.
Frankly, that sounds macabre. I'm sure she had complex feelings about it.
So the next time you're feeling chagrined about your super plus extra large tampon purchase, remember Anna.
I was originally going to say "Remember Anna's vagina," but that seems to cross some sort of line even for me.

As someone who sees about 35 vaginas a day, I can assure you that they come in all shapes and sizes. Life, childbirth, weight gain, sexual activity, gravity, and hormonal changes can have an effect on the contours of the vagina over time, but is this a problem?
The vagina is a muscular tube that is approximately 3-4 inches long and 2-3 inches wide. It expands for sexual activity and even more so for childbirth. Vaginal childbirth can affect the shape of the vagina. Think of the vagina as a tube sock. If an elastic tube sock has only ever had a foot in it, and then one day you put a cantaloupe in it, it is going to be a little stretched out initially. Vaginas are amazingly resilient, and they were made for childbirth. Most revert back to normal quite quickly. But when childbirth involves prolonged pushing, large babies, multiple births, or significant vaginal tears (especially if they don’t heal well or get infected), sometimes the pelvic floor can be damaged, permanently affecting the shape and function of the vagina.
It can take 6-12 weeks for the pelvic muscles to recover from childbirth. If after that time you have any of the following symptoms, then you might have pelvic floor damage and need to see your doctor.
If your vagina did not bounce back as well as you would have preferred from the adventures of childbirth, there are things you can do to get your vagina and pelvic floor back into shape. You can start with weight loss (if your BMI is more than 30), Kegels , and exercises that strengthen your core. If these don’t work, then there are specialized physical therapists who are trained to help women strengthen their pelvic floor.
If physical therapy doesn’t help, it may be time to see a doctor. Gynecologists or urogynecologists (a urologist or gynecologist who has had additional training in pelvic floor reconstruction) are the best types of doctors to see if you’re concerned there is something wrong with your vagina. Sometimes the perineal muscles (the muscles between your vagina and rectum) tear during childbirth and don’t heal as they should. Occasionally they need to be surgically repaired.

What you shouldn’t do to tighten your vagina

Do not use any type of over-the-counter vaginal “tightening sticks” or “herbal remedies” to try to tighten or shrink your vagina. These work by causing irritation to the vagina that induces swelling. I have seen patients with severe vaginal burns from these products requiring hospitalization. As a general rule, you should not put anything in your vagina that you buy on Etsy.
If you are concerned about the outside appearance of your labia, then seeing a plastic surgeon to reshape your vaginal lips is fine (though completely unnecessary in my professional gynecological opinion). If you are concerned about the structure or function of your vagina, then you should see a gynecologist or a urogynecologist. Surgery should always be the last resort, but if you need your pelvic muscles repaired, then you need to see a urogynecologist who is trained to reconstruct your pelvic floor.
Vaginal laser treatment is marketed as another option, but we don’t have enough data on it. It supposedly stimulates collagen growth and claims to improve vaginal dryness and some symptoms of vaginal laxity. Be aware: Laser treatment has not been approved by the FDA for this purpose, and there have been case reports of vagina burns. If you do choose to try vaginal laser therapy, make sure you have it done with a gynecologist who can assess your pelvic floor and not at a med spa.
A woman’s sexual satisfaction is not related to the size of the vagina. Stimulation to the clitoris and pressure to the inner front portion of the vagina enhance sexual response. Multiple studies have shown no difference in sexual function or satisfaction between women who have had cesarean sections versus those with vaginal deliveries, suggesting the normal stretching from a vaginal delivery does not make a difference.
Can a vagina be too big? If a woman hasn’t had an exceptionally difficult vaginal birth or any type of vaginal surgery, then no. If childbirth has damaged your pelvic floor and is causing structural problems, then consult your gynecologist or urogynecologist. Remember to be kind to your vagina, don’t rush into any surgery, and above all else, don’t put any herbal “tightening” remedies in there.

If what you used to do to keep your weight in check isn't working anymore, there's a reason. Learn how to stay healthy as you age.
There are many possible causes for a missed period, which can have similar symptoms to pregnancy. So how can you tell what’s really going on?
As a parent and a child psychologist, I have a lot of empathy for other parents struggling with the question of whether their child may have ADHD.
You might not believe this, but I really don’t like talking about my type 2 diabetes.

Following rigorous competition and more than 130,000 voters, the World’s Most Beautiful Vagina Contest anointed a champion this week. It was a strange, difficult-to-gauge event—but that’s why organizers turned to scientists to tell us what it all means.
U.K. resident Nell, 27, won first place and $5,000 in the pageant with a vulva beauty ranking of 7.7 out of 10. Jenny, 23, of Bavaria, Germany, took second place with a 7.3; and Anita, 20, from Hungary, came in third. They each earned $2,500 and $1,250, respectively.
The contest was sponsored by Brian Sloan, who is also the manufacturer of the Autoblow 2 . It’s known as “the first truly realistic alternative to traditional pleasure products for men,” according to the its website .
These winners will also be flown out to Los Angeles, where their vulvas will be 3D-scanned to later be reproduced for the Autoblow device.
Sloan contracted a group of data scientists to analyze the contest’s findings for their scientific implications. The data was then compiled in “ The Vulva Paper .”
If you’re a visual learner, you can view photo examples of each class here .
The Vulva Paper’s website says scientists “used the contest data to assess the diversity in vulval morphology and voters’ preference for different morphologies.” A total of 182 women participated in the contest; 110 entries were examined for the study (if measurements could not be taken from the photo, the entry was not considered).
The scientists viewed each entry on a 15-inch computer screen, zooming in “until the genitalia were easily measured using a screen ruler,” read the paper .
They measured labia majora length, labia minora length, and clitoral hood length.
Finally, the scientists rated the complexity of the labia minora; they used the three categories of rugosity (smooth, moderate, marked) to do so. To prevent vaginal bias, the same person also conducted all of these measurements. The scientists later used this research to classify the contest’s entries into six different categories of “vulval morphology.”
A chart detailing the six classes is included below:
As far as methodology is concerned, a random assortment of entries was sent to each voter, who was then asked to rate the vulva pictured on a scale from 1 to 10. These voters were only able to rank one photo at a time, but could also vote on an unlimited number of entries. The scientists compiled 2,766,671 ratings from 134,707 contest voters.
“To reduce individual biases, we centered each voter’s ratings using their mean and standard deviation. This allowed us to reflect the preferences of voters on the same scale,” read the study .
According to the paper , each voter rated 21 photos, on average. Each vulva also received 15,285 votes, on average.
The study also found that “roughly 51% of voters preferred the first two classes of non-protruding, simple labia. The other 49% favored the four more complex vulva classes.”
“As expected from the rankings that we saw at the country and local levels, Class 1 vulvas are preferred over the others more often. But the combined percentages of voters who preferred more complex classes of vulvas far outweighed those who preferred the simplest style.”
The winners’ photos, however, were not included in the study—having been among the participants whose photos were not able to be considered. Moreov
