Meeting with representatives of the International Finance Corporation

On June 16, Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Jamshid Kuchkarov met with a delegation from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) headed by Managing Director and Executive Vice President Makhtar Diop. The meeting was in an online format.

For information: IFC is an international financial institution that is part of the World Bank and works on a steady inflow of private investment in developing countries.

The meeting was also attended by Minister of Finance Timur Ishmetov, Chairman of the Board of the Central Bank Mamarizo Nurmuratov, representatives of the Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction, the Ministry of Finance and JSC “Uzkimyosanoat”. The IFC delegation included Vice President for Latin America and the Caribbean, Europe and Central Asia Georgina Baker, Vice President and Treasurer John Gandolfo, Director for Europe and Central Asia Wiebke Schloemer and other specialists.

The parties discussed further assistance of the International Finance Corporation to the reforms carried out in Uzbekistan. In particular, they noted the importance of supporting one of the priority areas - expanding public-private partnership projects.

Particular attention is paid to the ongoing transformation of the banking sector. The IFC's programs on reforming the chemical industry, green economy, decarbonization and further modernization of the energy sector of Uzbekistan with the support of the corporation were also considered.

Makhtar Diop noted the readiness of the IFC to continue promoting sustainable development in all areas in which our country cooperates with the corporation.

At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed their commitment to further mutually beneficial partnership in order to effectively implement economic reforms.
