http://urllio.com/qzmj3Bishop thought he had put his murderous past behind him, until his most formidable foe kidnaps the love of his life. Now he is forced to complete three impossible assassinations, and do what he does best: make them look like accidents.
Retired and living under a new secret identity, the hardened elite hit-man, Arthur Bishop, has found shelter in bustling Rio de Janeiro. However, at gunpoint and under the serious threat of being exposed by his arch-nemesis, Riah Crain, Bishop will have no other choice but to agree in performing three impossible suicide missions across the four corners of the earth, to finally get off the hook. But, now, time is of the essence, as Crain's outrageous ultimatum is clearly no joke. Obviously, this assassin's killing days are definitely not over, but can Bishop do what he does best without losing a new-found love?
What I really dislike about some reviews is that the reviewer wants a "Gone With the Wind" epic blockbuster movie but goes to see a movie that never promises to be one. This is an escapist movie, there are going to be times that one needs to suspend belief. There are going to be holes in the script (or perceived ones if you don't pay attention; the script is the type where one needs to pay attention AND remember things). Sometimes the special effects may not be as realistic as one hopes (remember this is a movie not an documentary),but the editing is tight The stunts can be crazy; for example he jumps upon on top of a hang glider early on (it's telegraphed a couple of minutes prior to it happening so this is not much of a "spoiler").<br/><br/>If you want an full-on action movie in which Statham "resurrects" (get it?) his mechanic role you'll like the show, but if you want to see a tight great script with nuance maybe you should just stay home.
The usual plot, ingenious escapes, and explosions but nothing new in the way of plot. That doesn't make it dull, however.<br/><br/>This time, Bishop, the most dangerous hit man in the world, is living in the South Seas, believing he's at last left his past behind. He's blackmailed into leaving "retirement" to do three kills...Of course he does it, with plenty of fisticuffs, acrobatic skills, and...oh yes...explosions.<br/><br/>The most spectacular of the three concerns a cantilevered glass-bottomed swimming pool suspended off the side of a skyscraper.<br/><br/>Really there's nothing new because we know Bishop's going to prevail. Watching him do it is the entertainment.<br/><br/>The best part, aside from those explosions and hair-breadth escapes, is Tommy Lee Jones's cameo, late in the film, complete with two earrings and a millennium patch. His role is played devilishly but is too short. His on screen time was wasted since he was barely a threat.<br/><br/>Entertaining and well-played, but so familiar Statham could've done it in his sleep. 9 out of 10 for the beautiful scenery and how Statham looks in a wet suit...and the swimming pool scene.
Mechanic: Resurrection suffers from a storyline and script that strains credulity and insults intelligence even by the low bar set by the majority of contemporary action movies.
