A notable photographer — a guy who shoots for Esquire from time to time — has started this thing we like: MeInMyPlace.com . He photographs women in their own homes, in their own clothes, at their own invitation. The results are, uh, intriguing. So we started asking some famous women to invite him over for the Me in My Place Esquire Sessions. And the results are, well, a lot of you seemed to like his Sarah Shahi photos .
Let's continue the series with Natalie Zea, the 35-year-old TV star you may or may not remember from Dirty Sexy Money or Hung , but who you should definitely watch on Season Two of the Elmore Leonard-approved show Justified . I try to be a good girl. I time it out so that every single second of my morning is being utilized: I shower, drink the coffee, brush the teeth, deodorize, and get dressed sometimes.

I'm from the South, and so is my character. There's something sort of intrinsic in being a Southerner that doesn't go away. You can't get rid of it, but it's not something that's terribly obvious. You know, when you meet somebody and you ask them where they're from and they say, "Louisiana," you're like, "Of course you are."

There's a lot of unrequitedness involved in a lot of these women that I play. I'm drawn to the romantic aspect of a character. It's human emotion. It's much more fun to watch. And it's much more fun to play.

Our house is really, really cold — you walk in and the temperature drops about ten degrees for no reason. It's not the best in the winter, so I can't sleep bottomless. But in the summer, I go with nothing.

I sometimes go to the men's section at H&M and buy nice oversized shirts and have them as my house shirts, with little shorts or whatever. As long as my upper body is warm, the legs can handle it.

I have two cats. This one is such a little hooker. She'll come and hang out with anyone who walks in the house. We could have robbers come and she would be like, "Hey, what's up?" And she thinks that that's her bed. The other one, she wants none of it. She hangs out in my dirty clothes hamper. Loves it.

I'm not a big lingerie girl. I see it and I love it and I appreciate it and sometimes I even buy it, and then it never gets worn. It just seems like kind of a wasted middle step. Either you're dressed or you're not. What is this in-between stuff?

I'm not a big bra girl at all. And I'm finally on a show that's on cable, where I'm allowed to not wear a bra and I'm very happy about that. I've always been fighting for braless, so much so to the point where the networks asked the standards and practices to call up producers and be like, "You have got to get that broad to wear a bra, because we're having to airbrush out her nipples." Because nipples are awful. I mean, god forbid!

On really, really nice days, we have a back deck. If I don't have anything else to do, I try to spend a good hour of the morning out there. I read the paper, answer e-mails, eat breakfast, make phone calls. And then because it's such direct sunlight, it gets a little too hot, and I'm good. I've got myself.

I worked at McDonald's. I was the one who said Fries up! And I was really shy about it. I hated it — three buck an hour. And then I worked for my dad as a waitress in one of his places. And he fired me. He said I was rude to the customers. And I was.

I was pretty rebellious. I mean, I was expelled from six schools. My parents sent me to private girls school and they don't tolerate much. You had to wear a uniform and I would wear mine too short — too much makeup or too much hair dye, too many piercings. Whatever it was, I did it.

I went blond when I was Marilyn Monroe and I had to stay blond because they offered me Without A Trace . But I've always thought of myself as a secret redhead. Even if that's not your thing, redheads — it's sort of a showstopper. Like, you walk into a room and it's in Technicolor.

Once you give birth, I think a lot of your insecurities go away. I used to be more demure about changing, but once you've breast-fed in a Barnes and Noble, it doesn't really matter who sees your boobs.

Esquire Presents Me in My Place with Sarah Shahi

A photographer we know — a notable photographer, who has shot portraits of many notable people — sent us a link to his new Tumblr page a few months ago: MeInMyPlace.com . There were portraits — stunning, bright, goddamn sexy — of many unknown women, not exactly "normal" or "regular," but not quite notable either. How the hell did this happen? we asked. Turns out our photographer friend took his camera and himself over to a New York City apartment one afternoon, and energy just happened. Beauty, too, like we'd never seen. And the site became so popular, with men and women, that it just keeps on happening.

Well, turns out we know a few notable women ourselves, so we sent him and his camera over to a few slightly less "normal" houses in Los Angeles the other week. The result is a collaboration we think you — and all those Tumblr people — will love: famous women, in their homes, and their clothes (mostly). So when you're not distracted by the original Me in My Place , come back to Esquire.com every two weeks for a new session.

I have kind of a cool house. My bedroom is a total loft, basically — the entire second story. It feels like I'm in a completely separate place when I'm here.

I can't sleep with anything on my legs. So I just sleep with a T-shirt. I really love like curling up underneath the covers — flannel. I cannot get enough of my flannel sheets.

Pinches, grabs, little kisses. Just those seductive things that people sometimes don't do as much anymore. They take for granted the way someone can look at you, or hold your hand, or give you a pinch on your ass that just keeps you in tune.

My goal of making it isn't an Oscar; it isn't any of those things. It's to have a giant Harry Potter library. That's what I want. If I can have a house that can have that kind of a library in it, then I feel like I've made it. I just want nothing but plush couches and a huge shaggy carpet and a fireplace with a bar in that room, and then books — floor-to-ceiling. That's what I want.

I never said I was a piano player. I took piano for maybe four years — when I was about twelve to sixteen. You don't want to hear me playing the piano.

I can brush my teeth for up to about seven minutes. Guys find white teeth hot. Or I don't know. Whatever. But I can whittle down a toothbrush in two months. Yeah, I need to ease up a little.

Tequila and I are long-time lovers. There's something about it in my blood that mixes well, like I'm floating on a cloud. They say when you make love, there's these hormones. Oxytocin is what it's called. Well, it's like that for me. I'm a little dangerous on tequila.

Crazy people sometimes think they're normal. And I have to admit, I am a little crazy, but I think that's normal. But of course I have insecurities. After seeing so many big, beautiful women in the press, magazines and advertisers are more willing to change their idea of what they think beauty is — and that doesn't have to mean a size double-zero. As I've gotten older, I've quieted those voices down and I just realize, You know what? I just like to have fun. I like to drink. I like to eat. I'll just make up for the next day, that's all.

We have windows all around, so you get this view of the city. And at night, it's beautiful. I also have a sauna upstairs in the bathroom, which I love.
