After a sexy video of the former Olympic gymnast dancing around in a tank top and a black thong surfaced on her Instagram page, the 21-year-old confirmed to her 1.2 million followers she wasn’t the victim of a social media hack.
Addressing some of the criticism that had come her way as a result of posting the video, Maroney also tweeted: “Hey, im just doing me. if u want me to be a role model so bad, get inspired by how i give 0 f***s and go do u.”
Maroney’s looks have been a hot topic, particularly since she quit gymnastics prior to the 2016 Rio Olympics. There were suggestions she’d had lip injections when photos emerged of her looking different to how she did when she was competing.
But Maroney has constantly denied ever altering her appearance.
The sultry video of Maroney dancing around in her underwear is not the first clip of its kind to appear on her social media profiles. In March this year she uploaded a similar video to her Twitter account.
Maroney has come a long way since stealing the show at the 2012 Olympics with her infamous “unimpressed” face after being awarded the silver medal for her vaulting performance.
She announced her retirement from gymnastics last year, revealing her aspirations to become a pop star.
Maroney previously shot down accusations of a hack in September 2014 after alleged nude images of the gymnast were leaked online. She later called the photos fake.
“The fake photos of me are crazy!! was trying to rise above it all, and not give ‘the creator’ the time of day,” Maroney tweeted.
