Ideally I would love to put a TB HDD in my MBP , but as no TB HDD run at 7200 RPM and are 2 .5inches, I am looking at 750GB HDD . The two i have noticed are Western Digital WD Scorpio Black 750 GB SATA 3 GB/s 7200 RPM 16 MB Cache Internal Bulk/OEM 2 .5-Inch Mobile Hard Drive
Migrating 400+GB of content from the old MBP over TB never caused the fans on the new one to kick in, at least not that I could tell . Running Cinebench R23, which repeatedly renders a photo image over about 10 minutes did cause the fans to wake up, but even so they're not loud, just present . Performance is obviously very good .
1 . Insert Mac OS X CD in MBP and turn off laptop . 2 . Wait for MBP to cool down then open back of MBP and discharge myself by touching CD tray metal area . 3 . Remove the bar where the HD is and take the SATA connector off of faulty 1 TB . 4 . remove mounting screws and place on new drive . 5 . install back into HD bay and screw everything back in .
To convert 4 TB disk to GPT via Diskpart . 1 . Press Windows key and R key combination to open Run . Type diskpart and hit Enter . Run as administrator . 2 . Type following commands in order: list disk > select disk n (where n is the 4TB hard drive) > clean > convert gpt > exit .
Search for Command Prompt, right-click the top result, and select the Run as administrator option . Type the following command to validate the drive and press Enter: mbr2gpt /validate /allowFullOS
When I think about 512 GB SSD then it doesn't seem to be much compared to all the other HDD laptops that come with a 1 TB storage . However, that is not the case . Most of the people (excluding game players) don't need a lot of storage and, just 256 GB is also enough for them . Assuming you are installing windows, it takes up about 30GB .

I am looking for the fastest and still portable external SSD for my new MBP , M1, I will be using it for Time Machine and I heard somewhere that to reach the highest speeds I need to get a thunderbolt 3 driver . The drive shows up in Disk Utility, but mounting does nothing . I have run "First Aid" with no errors . Disk Utility incorrectly thinks that the usage is 8/8 TB . As can be seen in the screenshot below, usage is around 4 .2/8 TB . The drive mainly contains a Synology HyperBackup file ( .hbk) which makes up almost single-handedly all of those 4 .2 TB .
