Mayor Kaushan has been detained

Employees of the National Center for Combating Corruption (NCBK) detained the mayor of the city of Kaushany. According to investigators, the official demanded a bribe of 89,000 lei in exchange for assistance in obtaining a contract for the performance of work.

This is not the first time that local mayors have been prosecuted for corruption. While the authorities in Chisinau are holding conferences and talking about the "fight against corruption," the classic continues on the ground — bribes for contracts.
