A family's home was burglarized, a father was hit in the head and a mother was raped, repeatedly. All while their three children were in the home.
The horrifying details of a 2013 home invasion and sexual assault on the Far Eastside escaped media attention for two years until this week, when a jury in Marion Superior Court found one of the suspects guilty of more than 20 crimes.
Ryan Clark, 21, and two other men broke into the family's home around 10:30 p.m. on Sept. 18, 2013, according to court documents. Armed with handguns, they forced the mother to a laundry room, where the men took turns raping her.
The crimes happened just a month before two other groups of victims — a family and a young couple — on Indianapolis' Far Northside endured similarly brutal attacks by other men. The home invasions on East 79th Street and North Spring Mill Road in October 2013 generated headlines and shook residents in nearby neighborhoods.
More recently, two other men accused of killing a young pastor's wife Nov. 10 — a slaying that also garnered media attention — were also accused of robbing and raping another woman in her apartment a week earlier.

Court records reveal similarly terrifying details for the family that lives on Wysong Drive on the Far Eastside.
Officers were called to the family's home shortly after midnight on Sept. 19, 2013. The woman told police she was sitting in her home's back porch when she felt the barrel of a gun on the back of her head. Three men, armed with handguns and wearing dark clothes and bandannas, surrounded the woman, according to court documents. One man guarded her while the two others gathered the woman's husband and three children, ages 16, 16 and 7.
The men demanded credit cards, ordered the family to remove their clothes and ransacked their belongings, according to court records. Then they took the mother to an adjacent laundry room and sexually assaulted her.
One of the men, whom the woman called the leader, later ordered her to take a shower to wash DNA off her body, she told police. The woman complied, but when she opened the shower door to grab a towel, the leader got angry and punched her near the nose, according to court documents.
The same man poured bleach over her as the woman screamed for him to stop, she told police.
Later, she was told to walk to the room where her family was. The men then drove off in the woman's car, taking the family's TV, computer and other electronics. The family stayed still for about 10 minutes before calling police.
Several months later, in June 2014, Clark and Shayne Thompson, 21, were charged with more than 20 crimes, including multiple counts of rape, criminal deviate conduct, criminal confinement and battery.
By then, the two men already had been arrested and accused of robbing a gas station clerk at gunpoint.
The woman told police one of the men who raped her had a mark on his lower right hip. Clark has a scar on the same spot from an old bullet wound, according to court records. She also identified Clark from a photo array.
Test results showed that Thompson's DNA matched the samples found in the victims' laundry room, according to court records. Thompson reached a plea deal with prosecutors in August 2014 and was sentenced to 45 years in prison, online court records show.
Clark was found guilty of all charges after a jury trial earlier this week. He is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 6 in Marion Superior Court Judge Kurt Eisgruber's courtroom.
The two men already are serving lengthy prison sentences for the armed robbery at a gas station on the Westside on Sept. 25, 2013, a week after the home invasion.
Police said Thompson, Clark and another man, Janai Hudson, 21, robbed Evalide Ndyiae, a 39-year-old clerk at the BP/Rickers gas station at West 38th Street and North High School Road.
Thompson, who shot and killed Ndyiae, pleaded guilty in August 2014 to murder and robbery charges and was sentenced to 110 years in prison . That sentence is in addition to the one he received in the home invasion case.
Clark pleaded guilty in September 2014 to robbery charges and was sentenced to 40 years in prison, court records show. That's different from the sentence he will receive next month in the home invasion case.
Hudson, who is not a suspect in the home invasion case, was sentenced to 30 years for the robbery.
No one else has been charged in the home invasion.

She’s a mother, a wife, and after one Friday night, she also became the survivor of rape .
Telling her story to news.com.au , Michele reveals the horrific details about the event that completely changed her life one night in a small coastal town in Australia.
Michele had just been looking forward to night out with her friends – away from the kids and her partner.
She remembers being at the pub when a group of men approached her friends to buy them drinks. They refused, but one kept persisting with her.

She had very little interaction with him, she told news.com.au . But she remembers him giving her a drink, which she assumes she consumed.
Michele then continued onto a nightclub with one of her sons and his friends, planning to have one more drink.
There, she remembers seeing some men who looked “vaguely familiar” but much of the traumatic night is blurred for Michele. She can’t remember having particular drinks, and has been forced to connect the dots or guess at what she thinks happens.
Her son saw two men near her when she said she was getting a taxi home. Then, everything is a blank until she woke up in a hotel room.”
She was lying naked on a bed, surrounded by naked men. They repeatedly penetrated and sexually assaulted her. As they raped her, she fell in out and consciousness, the result of being drugged. She was rendered unable to speak or try to defend herself from their vicious attacks.
She said she had "absolutely no control"over her body.
When Michele was eventually able to wake up and move, she grabbed her things and made her escape. As she left, one of the guys said to her, "Thanks for being a great sport with all of this."
It took her nearly a week to reconcile that she had been drugged and raped. Her fogged recollection of the events made it incredibly painful to report it to the police.
Thankfully, Michele did go the authorities to seek justice on what these terrible men did to her.
She spoke to news.com.au about her sexual assault and being drugged to highlight these horrific acts.
She has urged other victims report these crimes to police.
"By not reporting it, victims are allowing these guys to go unpunished and be free to go off and do it again to someone else."

As a survivor of a one glass of wine date rape a few New Years ago I'm sad to say I didn't report it! I was ashamed and blamed my own stupidity. I'm also familiar with our legal system which often puts the victim through much trauma and ridicule. I felt with little evidence and my word against his it wasn't worth putting myself through it all. In this day of technology I was also concerned what if they'd filmed it and made it public - I'm a professional. I justified my actions and now I live with those choices. I did however give him a 'hiding' the next day when the drugs wore off and almost broke his jaw thinking of all the other women who'd been betrayed by men like him! If the treatment of victims continues to change perhaps more victims of such assaults would come forward and make such reports.

“Doomsday” mom Lori Vallow’s only surviving child has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman who recorded him admitting to raping her, according to court documents.
Colby Ryan, 26, was busted in Arizona Saturday and booked into Maricopa County Jail, where he remained on a $10,000 bond Tuesday on two counts of sexual assault, court records show.
He is the surviving son of Vallow, the cult member charged with murdering her other two children, Joshua “JJ” Vallow, 7, and Tylee Ryan, 17, whose bodies were found buried on her new husband’s property in rural Idaho.
Ryan’s accuser claimed that he visited her home in Mesa last Wednesday and pestered her to have sex as they watched TV, according to court documents obtained by The Post.
She begged him to “stop,” saying, “I don’t want to do this” — but the 6-foot-3, 230-pound suspect forced himself on her, according to the complaint.
Throughout, she kept telling him, “‘Stop, I don’t want to do it'” while “trying to push him off,” the complaint said.
After he was done, Ryan “said he was sorry and started to cry,” the complaint alleged.
Ryan slept on the couch after the accuser locked herself in her bedroom.
The next day, she called Ryan and recorded him as he “agreed that he ‘raped’ her” and continued having sex after she begged him to stop, the court document stated.
After his arrest, Ryan also “made verbal admissions” to having sex with the accuser even after she “told him to stop multiple times,” the complaint said.
Ryan has a court date set for Friday. It was not immediately clear if he has an attorney assigned to represent him.
His 49-year-old mom is also behind bars, potentially facing the death penalty if convicted of the crimes she is charged with.
Vallow and her husband Chad Daybell, 52, have pleaded not guilty to murder, conspiracy and grand theft charges in connection with the 2019 deaths of her two younger children from previous relationships.
Idaho law enforcement officers started investigating in November 2019 after extended family members reported that the children were missing.
During that period, police said, the couple lied about the children’s whereabouts. Their bodies were found buried later on Chad Daybell’s property in rural Idaho.
Chad and Lori Daybell married just two weeks after his previous wife, Tammy Daybell, died unexpectedly. Tammy Daybell’s death was initially reported as due to natural causes, but investigators had her body exhumed after growing suspicious when Chad Daybell quickly remarried.
Lori Vallow Daybell is also charged with conspiracy to commit murder in Arizona in connection with the death of her previous husband.
Charles Vallow was shot and killed by Lori Daybell’s brother, Alex Cox, who claimed it was self-defense. Cox later died of what police said was natural causes.
