I've played a lot of them, and even compared to Western RPGs this game tells a story that doesn't lean on gratuity or mentioning sex or showing extreme violence...its a mature story for adults that is also appreciable by children. Hopefully this game paves the way for the future of JRPGs.

I love this game, but the gratuitous hit at WRPGS makes me think you don't play many. There are plenty of good, mature WRPGS, there's no reason to divide people along JRPG/WRPG lines.


I'm not dividing the genres (they are different though). But, the Western games tend to overly rely on extreme acts of violence, depicitions of sex. (I like that in a game, adn even though it is only "adult appropriate", it doesn't mean its mature!)

This game IS mature storytelling, like a classic fable that maturation will be appreciated for years to come.


Agreed. Actual maturity is in themes and character development.

Sorry, TC, but I agree with this post.
It seriously sounds like your opinion on WRPGs is based on a run in with Dragon Age and/or The Witcher.

Just like you can't judge all JRPGs based on Hyperdimension Neptunia or the Atelier games, you can't judge all WRPGs based on a few examples.

But it's extremely good.


I love the Witcher games, Dragon Age is OK, more of a Mass Effect fan, a game that is not only mature but also adultish. The point being is that you are pretending to play the role of the main character, and this game is triumphant in its story telling ability that doesn't rely on shock shock shock super violence or hardcore sex. Witcher 2? LOVE IT, got it on release, but showing full frontal sex doesn't make it mature, it makes it adult.


I don't find Mass Effect to rely on shock, extreme violence, or "hardcore sex".

It still deals with more mature themes than NNK. Full frontal or violence has nothing to do with maturity. Anyone who is grounded in reality can see that The Witcher 2 is much more mature than NNK. NNK is probably one of the least mature RPGs I've played. Nothing wrong with that, but seems like you're just lying to yourself for whatever reason.
